Apache, you almost broke my brain. I never heard that Corpus Christi Bay was a cover...Turns out Rodriguez covered it in 1996, not the other way around. I must have missed that while I was raising babies and looking for work that year... But Johnny's version is a great one!

You know I was speaking out of my a**!
I heard the Johnny Rodriguez version and thought it must have been the original (since I didn't think he was putting out new stuff)
My bad for not giving REK the songwriting credit he deserves.

Tom Ames' Prayer is a favorite REK song of mine, but I think it is a Steve Earle song, right?
Edit: too slow

I would add, only because it hasn't been mentioned yet, REK's 2015 cover of "Wayfaring Stranger."

Shades of Gray is fantastic. I think the Cody Canada version is fairly bland, though.

I sing "I'll be here for you" as my daughter's lullaby before bed each night.

Many memories of Road Goes On Forever at the Hall during college... but I think my all time favorite is definitely the first song I heard from REK, Gringo Honeymoon.

That Buckin' Song.

I like REK but I know there are tons of songs of his that I haven't listened to. will have to give him some air time. that being said I think the first song of his that I heard and knew it was him was That Buckin' Song. haven't heard it in years but I gonna give it a listen this afternoon!

I remember hearing someone say that this song has a groove about a mile deep.

I've always found it to be wonderful, in a depressing sense. Or wonderfully depressing. Or depressingly wonderful.

Can we all agree that Walking Distance is his best album? That album is almost perfect.....I wish he put the Bucking song on another album since it didn't fit the style/mood of the album.

It's undoubtedly his best album IMO.. and totally agree with the buckin song being annoyingly out of place, but that was for him to decide I guess.

gringo honey moon is no slouch album tho. Easy second place.

Love that one. Somehow it's kinda silly but also extremely deep and meaningful at the same time.
