She was my favorite on Glee. Really sad situation for her son.

Really sad. The son said she jumped or fell in I guess, but he's 4 so not sure if he could grasp the exact situation.

Wow, my wife and I were showing our girls some of the music from that show about 3 days ago. I don't believe in curses, but 3 young people from the main cast dead in such a short amount of time. Very sad.

Such an easily prevented tragedy. Wear a pfd in lakes/on boats.

I think this might ultimately be a suicide. How many moms do you know who bring a young child to a lake and rent a boat by themselves?

There is a better chance she would be floating on the water if she had one

I know exactly that a pfd saves your life.

I have a hard time believing that she would go out to the lake, take her 4 year old out on a boat and then kill herself, leaving her kid stranded out on the water. That's seriously messed up, even for someone with suicidal thoughts.

First, never heard of this woman before I read this thread. Absolutely beautiful and I will assume quite talented although I don't think I have seen any of her work.

Second, 48 hour rule this one. Circumstances are indeed strange. It literally could be anything from murder to suicide to just terrible accidental death.

Regardless, horrible situation.

could have easily just cramped up without a life vest on and i've had that happen it is frightening. more likely if that water was cold.

but also could be just a situation where the boat drifted away from her enough and she could not get back. no idea how strong of a swimmer she was. or waves/wind.

and of course if any alcohol was involved it would not help.

tragic. i jut cannot imagine scenario where taking a small child and going in the water without a life preserver is logical. when we are boating we never leave the boat without some adult on board to be able to move it toward swimmers if needed.

this. Taking a small child out on the water with no one else and getting in the water is horribly irresponsible. It's literally boating 101 kind of stuff. The kind of thing that could get your custody revoked rather quickly. Sticking to my 48 hour recommendation.

This is her on Glee singing after her costar Cory Montieth died of a presumably accidental drug overdose in 2013.

The breakdown that comes with about 10 seconds left in the clip was unscripted. And that song really sucks to hear her sing today.

Which part.. the singing or the acting? Because that is clearly a voice over. You can't really have an unscripted break down while recording a song, and then have the same unscripted breakdown when you're filming the accompanying video.

They clearly filmed her singing it and she had a real breakdown while singing it on camera.
When they then did the real version of the song on the voice-over, they kept the breakdown in there and cut the song off to capture the real-life emotion that she had while remembering her friend.

Not saying you are wrong, because its a nice thought, but would they not record the song first normally?

I have zero idea how a TV show is filmed. I watched Lea Michelle tell Jimmy Kimmel the story on his show about a month after it aired.

I can't speak for Glee specifically but normally they'll film first then go to the studio after. This allows them to do all ADR at once and match the vocal performance to the video/edit, which is easier than having an actor try to match their visual performance to pre-recorded audio.

What a strange and tragic story. I know her mainly because she was the ex fiance of Big Sean and his hit single "I dont fck with you" was written about her after they broke up.

this seems entirely backwards to me. Any music video is audio first then video. You can listen to audio over and over to work on matching your video performance to the audio. You can't do that backwards. And the 'breakdown' happened during her singing. It wasn't until just after her little cry that it seemed like it switched to actual audio of her video performance. The cry itself was off and sounded pretty recorded/didn't match video. I'm a musician/singer and have a decade of recording experience, so I have a little bit of background/knowledge of this.

maybe we can put this discussion somewhere else. This thread is about the tragic loss of a talented young lady and her poor son left behind.

My first thought when I saw the headling, was that she probably committed suicide, which is sad.

video released showing Naya and her son getting to the marina, on the boat, and leaving the area initially.

nothing revealing really just interesting. except that she didn't park very well.

And parked sort of far away for an empty parking lot. Possibly was under the influence.?
