Technically I was still hanging on to 18 by a thread when those both came out, but I'm going to have to go with Goodfellas from the year I actually turned 18.

Edit to add: The early 1990s had much slimmer pickins than I remembered/realized...

I turned 18 in 1985, which as I already posted, Back to the Future was the best movie that year. But that was such a horrible year for movies overall that my runner-up was the best movie from 1983, the re-release of Return of the Jedi that came out in March 1985. Only other worthy movies I recall from that year were Rambo First Blood Part II, Witness, Pale Rider, and Silverado.

1963 "The Great Escape"

The Great Escape is a 1963 American epic war film starring Steve McQueen, James Garner and Richard Attenborough, and featuring James Donald, Charles Bronson, Donald Pleasence, James Coburn and Hannes Messemer. It was filmed in Panavision.

The film is based on Paul Brickhill's 1950 nonfiction book of the same name, a firsthand account of the mass escape by British Commonwealth prisoners of war from German POW camp Stalag Luft III in Sagan (now aga, Poland).

Best scene from the best movie of that year. Not that strong of a year compared to 62strat though. That's a good year for movies.
