Good or bad, Charlie Kaufman movies are always unique, which I have said many times here is maybe my first criteria in deciding what to watch. So I will be in,
But side note, Synecdoche NY is the most messed up movie I've ever watched. Seriously.

This looks to combine two of my favorite things in film - a Charlie Kaufman screenplay and Toni Collette acting psychotic.

I'm in.

I totally agree with "I'll watch well done things if they are weird". You get to a certain age and you are done with the formulaic stuff, just doing something unique or weird can catch my attention and I appreciate the effort. It still has to be well made, well acted - but I'll watch.

Finished.

Not for me. Too formulaic.

I watched it tonight.
Formulaic isn't the word that would come to mind, unless you mean formulaic for Kaufman, by which I would say it is very esoteric and out there, with the movie open to different interpretations.
Even though I figured out the basic idea fairly early on, the final scene threw me for a loop a bit. and I had to read around to see I was still generally "right" based on Kaufman's view of it.

If you like Kaufman and something like Synechdoche NY you will probably like this, but I will say that this one is in desperate need of an editor. Could have been an hour shorter and little would have been lost.

And the book is apparently much clearer, Kaufman purposely took out some of the clarity from it.

But very typical for him overall.

It was a joke. I enjoy watching his films because they are so different and unique - true, you can tell it is "Kaufmanesque" but he is the only one making movie quite like this and he hasn't made so many it's become the victim of satire. Like say, Wes Anderson.
