Very interesting... The 80s must have been the decade of the Loud Song. It was definitely the decade of the Anthem, but a lot of songs listed aren't Anthems like Rock and Roll All Night, Living in a Prayer, etc.

The late 70s, which gave birth to 80s music gets a lot of mentions also.

Is this because everyone was 16 in 1986 or is that just the chemistry in those songs?

I was only 8 in 1986. Many of the songs I listed above elicit a memory of the skating rink. I guess there is some subconscious connection to being on wheels and having the wind blow through my hair.

These lyrics have stayed with me since I was 12, and now I have kids approaching 16. If they're still with me when my future grandkids are that age, I'll find you and buy you a coke. I love this song, along with all of your other mentions.

I've got a son who will be 16 in December. Thank goodness he and I like the same music! Although, he has this habit of turning the radio down (or even off) when he is driving. I guess I shouldn't complain that he doesn't want to be distracted.

That opening barrage of guitars is amazing. Just an awesome song.
