I totally get this from a business perspective and I do not fault Disney for trying a business model that in some respects was probably inevitable anyways. I think the thing that I'm mourning is the movie theater experience. I know the movie theaters are drowning right now and movies like this would help them tremendously. But, the complexities of trying to survive in the midst of a pandemic are simply to complex for me to levy judgment on companies (theaters and production companies) who are trying to find their own way.
I think the more interesting question this raises is, what does big budget movie making and seeing look like post-pandemic and what exhibition venues will be left to show them... and what business model will they employ to exist in a largely streaming world.
