I bet I watch this documentary once a year. It's so dang good (if you like this sort of thing). Does anybody else watch it over and over?

Used to watch this repeatedly years ago, when I first saw it on the History Channel (back when they actually had shows about history). It is a really good show.

Yup. Watching for at least third time. The sheer numbers the Germans and the Russians threw at each other on the eastern front is mind numbing. Those two episodes always stun me no matter how many times I watch it.

This is a really good series. Still runs periodically on cable. It is amazing to think how fast and far technology changed during and after that war.

Indeed. Just in aviation terms, the war started with some stringbag biplane aircraft in airfleets (Swordfish, for instance) and ended with high altitude, internally pressurized heavy bombers with "computer" controlled gun turrets (B-29).

It's great, but I'm a sucker or anything WWII related. I rewatched The Pacific for the first time in a long time this year, and I have a new found respect for it. It's definitely a lot less rewatchable than Band of Brothers, but it still has a lot of value, but the Pacific front was a much different kind of war than Europe.

Is it colorized b&w video? Or original color? If it's the latter, then I'm amazed they have that much color footage.

I believe it is colorized B&W. I can't say that is 100% of the film is colorized, as color film did exist and was very likely used in some places. Related, there is a series of photo books with gorgeous, glossy pages of Kodachrome photographs:

It's colorized. They transition the B&W to color in the opening credits. It's well done though, doesn't look rotoscoped or oversaturated like some colorizations.

There's a companion series called 'The Greatest Events of WWII in Colour" which is on Netflix along w/ the original.

About to finish up this show and move onto the WWII in Color: Road to Victory which is next in the Netflix cue.
