If this thread has shown me anything it is that there are several insanely talented pop artists who could have made some amazing music but decided to make easy money instead.
I'll add Lady Gaga to that list. Insane talent wasted on ****ty pop songs.
How dare they!Average Joe said:

I'll never understand the argument that top 40 Pop music is somehow easy. "Anyone could make a top 40 hit" is so stupid. If it was so easy to make a top 40 hit then there would be a new Madonna number 1 single every year.Average Joe said:

You know what is easy? Making an "artistic" rock song that no hears or cares about. Laura Cox? Never heard of her, if you asked any one on the street you'd be hard pressed to find a single person who has. I'm not saying she isn't talented but there are hundreds of talented artists that no one as ever heard of.

Lady Gaga could make a rock album that would chart high on the rock charts tomorrow, Metallica couldn't make a top 40 single today if they tried their hardest.
Metallica has 7 top 40 singles, from 6 different albums (#4,5,6,7 and 9 out of 10), representing 3 of the last 4 decades.Jasomania said:Average Joe said:

Had they put out more than one album this decade, they probably could have had one in the 2010s as well.
Bad example.
i'm skeptical that those predictive analytics only apply to the pop music industry.cbr said:
Fwiw, the pop music industry is insanely formulaic.
In my limited work in the industry, I was shocked that a venue could put out a list if potential concerts and nail attendance within 5% before even trying to sign the artist or set a date.
For instance, there are less than 10 -15 acts that can sell over 70,000 seats at any given time. And the concert people can name them. And they can tell you that x will sell 73000 seats in a city of 4 million, and y will only sell 71,000, and they'll generally be right within a thousand or two.
