If you guys listen to a lot of Spotify, their AI has created something incredible with the new Time Capsule playlist. I think it uses the songs you listen to most, then pulls similar songs from the same time period. And if you mix it around while you're listening, you get a really interesting mix. For example, I get a lot of late 80s and early-mid 90s rap, but also 90s rock and 2000s indie. For example, it just pulled up Mind Playing Tricks on Me by the Getto Boys. Before that was "Heartbeats" by Jose Gonzalez and "Say It Ain't So" by Weezer.

In the past I have just copied songs I like to a master playlist called "Pandora" that currently runs like 17 hours, and then use the "radio" option to pick songs based off that playlist. This is similar, but somehow better because it's also picking up songs I haven't thought about in forever (i.e., Steet Talkin by Slick Rick or Feel the Pain by Dinosaur Jr.). I think it might change every time I fire up the app, too. Need to investigate further.

It updates what's in your time capsule daily. I've been loving it, I get the weirdest stuff back to back. Right now mine has Backstreet Boys, Ice Cube, Slipknot, Everclear, Snoop Dogg, Britney Spears, Rage Against the Machine, and Dashboard Confessional

There's a couple other playlists like this you may want to check out, On Repeat is a mix of your currently most played stuff. Repeat Rewind is stuff you have listen to a lot but not lately. They both update weekly.

The Daily Mixes are also great, they will figure out the genres you like based on your play history and put like stuff together in an endless mix, you get 6 based on different genres and they change daily.

Am I the only one with daily mixes that are basically the same every day? Seems to be a rotation of the same 20-30 artists. I used to listen to the daily mixes every day, thinking it was great at the time, but it never rotated to any of the other artists I have saved so I gave up on it.

It kind of depends for me. I listen to a lot of genres so depending on my musical mood for the week it might shift a couple of them drastically. But for the most part if I'm listening to my base line of musical tastes it is fairly similar. Sometimes all I want from it is songs I already like so it's fine but you do wind up carving a feedback loop of the same 150 or so songs.

Have you used the Discover Weekly Playlist? It does a great job of finding you new music based on your musical taste.
