how do you go on from Trebek? He and Jeopardy are 100% synonymous. Need someone refined, smart, quick, outgoing, apolitical, intelligent and charismatic.

I would imagine it is going to be Ken Jennings.

They had him on the last few months as a consulting producer and on-air he read out some categories.That seemed like a transitionary thing when they announced it.

Could go another way completely but Jennings is pretty comfortable on camera now and certainly on that show. As for your criteria I would say he meets most if not all of that although a little vanilla in a quirky way.

It's going to be odd for sure no matter who it is. But I expect they may take a break before making a move.

I had a sinking feeling they were grooming Jennings for the host spot. He is a bright guy, but damn, he is smug. Trebeck was the opposite. I expect the replacement to be an established host from somewhere else.

Agree that of the big three winners Rutter would have the easiest transition going forward I think either Jennings and Rutter would work in the long run since they both seem to really love the show to the extent that Alex did.

They had a small but touching announcement of Alex's passing before today's episode. We have 35 Alex Trebek hosted episodes still left to enjoy.

I don't know that you have to necessarily find someone that is a Trebek clone in terms of delivery and demeanor. Either way, I think most people will initially be turned off by whoever replaces him, although having a popular player like Jennings would help soften the landing.

Was Wolf Blitzer put in as a joke?

I think having a rotating set of hosts as sort of an extended audition for a while is an appealing idea. That list of the betting odds has a load of terrible options who lack any kind of charm or credibility, however. I'd love to see Bradley Walsh, the host of the UK version of The Chase host some shows... or maybe Paul Sinha - one of the chasers. Both have the kind of rapport with contestants to make the show watchable while keeping the trivia itself as the centerpiece of the contest. I have no idea of their availability, however.

I thought Tony Reali would be an option....
