Random suggestion... "Christmas movies" that aren't really *about* Christmas and/or aren't known for being Christmas movies?
Check out When Trumpets Fade.

Edit :I watched a short clip and realized Timothy Olyphant was in this one. He was really good in Fargo 4.

Hallmark Channel Christmas Movies (Tanya or anyone else who ODs on these could you please make a bracket of 16 of your favorites seeded 1 through 16)

Can we make our Hallmark movie bracket dependant on the hotness of the lead actress?

I suppose it is more than some of those but It's not exclusively xmas.... it takes place over a longer period that culminates at Christmas. Although even the epilogue is not xmas. The early Keira wedding scene and Colin Firths entire romance in France with the Portugese housekeeper are not xmas related in any way. The office work situation with Alan Rickman is initially just day to day office stuff and the dad Liam Neeson and kid mourning their wife/mom have nothing to do with christmas until the end. Even the newly elected PM meeting the President is not xmas related. Have not timed it but I bet xmas is less than half of the movie.

I don't know. Maybe tangential is a better word than borderline. To me Christmas movies are exclusively about Christmas.

Serendipity is the one that really bugs me when people call it a xmas movie - it takes place over months and months the only xmas part is that they meet initially when xmas shopping. 75% of the movie is not about xmas at all. And not the culmination.

Tangential or borderline does not imply it is not a Christmas movie.

I put that one and the others on my list in a thread about Christmas movies.....right. Just under that categorization.

My only point was it isn't a Christmas movie about Christmas the way say Miracle on 34th St. or White Christmas or the many Christmas animated movies are solely about a Christmas centric story. Even comedies like A Christmas Story or Elf or Scrooged are purely about or around Christmas.

It's more of just a category to me of movies that are not exclusively about Christmas but have a significant Christmas element.

I would argue that Christmas is fairly integral to the story because the characters are constantly talking about how "at Christmas, you tell the truth", or things like that, and the whole movie is a countdown to Christmas.

Could you remove the Christmas and have pretty much the same movie? Probably, but you could say that about Home Alone as well.

I think if a movie is embracing Christmas to the point where the soundtrack is all Christmas music, you can safely call it a Christmas movie, rather than a "borderline" Christmas movie.

But honestly it's just a silly argument about semantics at this point.

Ed was the best. One of my all-time favorite shows. I actually rewatched "Home for Christmas" last night via a crappy YouTube link, and it brought back so many great memories. I can't believe they still haven't been able to work out all the music rights issues. I feel like it would do really good in the steaming age, on Peacock or wherever.

I'm regretting throwing out the idea of having a bracket for Christmas episodes of regular TV series. I have a feeling this bracket will be the most difficult to put together and the one I'm going to catch the most flak over.
