I'll bite, but I get to tell a quick story of my own:

The original "Space Jam" was on a few weeks ago. My father in law was a VP where Larry Johnson played Juco ball and knew him pretty well (spoke often back in the day, first name basis, positive relationship, etc). I was telling my 23 year old daughter that it made her two degrees from Michael Jordan. She said, "Who cares?! I'm two degrees from Bugs Bunny!"

Now you can tell yours.

Does this count?

My dad was in the One O'Clock Lab Band at UNT with Blue Lou Marini and Tom "Bones" Malone, who were both in the Blues Brothers band with John Belushi. Belushi was in Animal House with Bacon.

I remembered watching as a kid and wondering why that last scene with Neal and his wife was so dramatic. I just figured Thanksgiving was a really important holiday for them.

It all makes perfect sense after watching that.

Same for me. I didn't really understand why Mrs Page sat up in bed during one phone call and said, "What's going on, Neil?".

Would like to have seen more of Michael McKean. Never knew they were in Wisconsin and got arrested

I said in another thread a while back that so much of the premise of the movie is based on the fact that the characters struggle to figure out what to do when their flight is cancelled. They don't have instant communication, cell phones, text messaging, data, etc., and that lack of information/having to figure out WTF to do next is a big part of what drives the conflict and humor in the movie.

I just don't see how a remake could tap into that.

Eh, that could be solved with a couple of throw away lines.
"I lost my phone."
"That's a good thing. I, myself, don't use one, because they track you on it."

I guess, but what are the chances that both of them
lose their phones (and don't have a laptop, iPad, or other secondary device) and they don't come into contact with anyone else who will let them borrow one?

Traveling today is just so much different than traveling in 1986-87. The entire premise of the movie seems like a stretch in this day and age. The scenes at the beginning of the movie that involve fighting over the cab just wouldn't happen today.

Heck, the scenes with the rental car are that much funnier because it was that old-style, wood paneled convertible. A Hyundai Elantra or a Toyota Corolla would not have the same effect.

But maybe the film makers will come up with something creative.

Can't disagree with this.

Yeah, Del would definitely have status with an airline and Neil probably would too, so they would be privy to tons of insider information to get them alternate ways home. There wouldn't have been an issue getting to the airport with Lyft or Uber, would have known about delays, etc. They both would have been on their cell phones to their premiere lines before getting off the plane, if they even got on because they would know O'Hare was shutting down before.

I despise the idea of a remake. The only way it would maybe work would be to have it set in the 80s, which takes care of all of the modern tech and travel issues.

And we ALREADY have the 80s version.

An original "remake" was already done with Due Date. That movie worked, and it was funny.

But nowhere near "classic" level.

I agree. Like so many a current movies, it was forgotten like a fart at dinner that nobody reacts to.

That channel has been putting out some great/interesting content lately which has resulted in a crew member sending in some deleted footage from Uncle Buck.

What if they remade it, but in the 1880's......

For what it's worth, I was in a rush to leave for a long weekend in Nashville and forgot my phone at home and didn't realize until getting to the airport. Made for an interesting weekend doing everything you'd normally do traveling without a phone. Could almost make a movie out of that, and it. Would be easy to have him rush out of the meeting and leave his phone on the desk. Or leave it behind in the Uber.

Here's my problem with Planes Trains. I've watched it every Thanksgiving for decades. It's a tradition I love, but it has a huge Wooderson effect. "I keep getting older, they stay the same age". It used to be a funny show about old people having funny problems. Now I see young man dealing with corporate hassles, trying to get home to his cute young kids and hot 30-something wife.

Kind of like Married...with Children. As a kid, I didn't really get it, as a guy with a wife and kids, I get it too much.
