There's a 5 minute "sneak peak" of this new Peter Jackson documentary on Apple TV+, to be released in 2021.

I thought the dozen or so documentaries on Netflix and Prime covered just about everything you ever wanted to know, but he's claiming he's using 56 hours of never-seen-before film, and he is Peter Jackson.

I'm in.

That is awesome!!!!! They look so happy! Can you imagine, where they might be had John not been killed. I do believe they would have gotten back together at some point for a reunion concert, much like Led Zeppelin

He's essentially remaking Let it Be. The original movie portrayed the sessions as a pretty tense time in Beatles history. Many people think that depiction was somewhat overblown. The concern with Jackson's version is whether he's going to go to the other extreme. But, regardless, seeing the fully restored rooftop concert in its entirety will be awesome.

Strange comparison IMO.
If guy in band A doesn't die, they probably would have reunited like band B who broke up because the drummer died, and their eventual reunion tours didn't involve the dead drummer or the important bass player.

eagles/van halen/aerosmith all managed to breakup and reunite without critical deaths but none of them really compare to the Beatles in terms of importance/legacy.

I could imagine a scenario where Paul and John would collaborate but its hard to picture some full 80s Beatles reunion. Doesn't seem like John or George would take part in the Beatles residency in Branson, MO.

I used to hear the rumors for years that the Beatles had talked about getting back together with Julian Lennon taking John's place much like Jason did when he took John's place at the London concert

Wow... so much of the late stuff we have seen is so sullen and morose....

it's refreshing to see them seemingly happy, playful, etc....

It was probably a mix of both but it is nice to see that side.

In case anyone else was (like me) assuming this is releasing on Apple TV, it's actually coming to Disney+.

Interesting. I know that Apple and Disney have worked together in the past, but why would Apple be promoting Disney content now?

It's not Apple the computer company...

Quote:

Apple Corps Limited is a multi-armed multimedia corporation founded in London in January 1968 by the members of the Beatles to replace their earlier company and to form a conglomerate. Its name is a pun. Its chief division is Apple Records, which was launched in the same year.

No idea. I don't have Apple TV so I don't know how it works, but the featurette is on Disney+. It's possible your Apple TV is just gathering stuff from all your services and displaying it on your homepage? (Google TV does something similar.)

In any case, after further research, apparently it might still get a theatrical release in 2021. Nothing official as of yet. Apparently it was intended for Hulu originally, not Disney+.

Yes, I looked again and that's exactly what's happening. Disney+ all the way.

Installed apps on the Apple TV can share content information with the Apple TV+ app. It's all presented together. It took me a while to figure out where to see just the Apple original programming...

Can't wait to catch this. Paul looks like he would've been fun as hell to hang with.

But I cannot stand Yoko Ono.

About an hour into it. There is no narration of anything, it's just the footage of them in the studio. It's pretty neat seeing all the songs come together.

Watched the first episode this morning. As a musician I found bits of it intriguing. I think casual viewers will find it boring unless they are hard-core Beatles fans.

Great opening to bring us to this point in 1969. The quality is amazing.

Agree this was made for true Beatles fans. Not sure others can appreciate a lot of it.

Not surprisingly, they seem worn down and struggling to be fresh and creative as a group.

So far, it appears that:
- Paul is insanely talented. He's the driver, but feels burdened.
- John is happy to let Paul lead. Extremely comfortable with himself. He doesn't have to say what he's doing; he just does it.
- George is very intellectual and worries that he's not as good. I didn't realize that he left the band during that rehearsal, but you could see he was feeling marginalized.
- Ringo rarely talks, but is easy going and always ready to play and give the music a kick.
- Yoko was fine until she opened her mouth

What really strikes me is how honest they were with each other at this point. "That sounds like the same old shlt" and nobody disagrees.

The conversation at the end confirmed the dynamic.

Did anyone feel like they wanted to kick Yoko out of the circle when the Beatles were working and playing? Because I did. I wanted to be like let them work and get away from them!

Yes. She is terrible. If she made John happy, that's great but man she is awful in every way.

I've never seen any Beatles documentaries before this one but I've seen spinal tap many times so it's very familiar territory. But seriously this is really awesome to experience - they have on film the moment George Harrison quits the band, camera zoomed on Paul's anguished face as he realizes John will inevitably choose Yoko over the band and a hidden microphone capturing Paul and John arguing over why George left and how things have changed for the worse. All the stereotypes and mannerisms I've always heard about all of them are shining through. I've heard these Yoko jokes and stories over the years and here she is in the flesh acting all creepy weird sitting still one minute and then screaming into the microphone on a random song.

You wouldn't have thought Linda would have been able to catch all that nuance on camera.

Turn on closed captions on episode 1 when Yoko starts "singing" in the mic.
