Older with grandkids...The Mandolorian looks interesting, and some of the comic book hero things are okay (really like Guardians of the Galaxy, though)...other than that, what's in it for adults? And the grands have already seen everything by the time I get them so that in and of itself is not a big enough reason to subscribe.
Thoughts?

It comes almost solely down to Marvel and Star Wars. If you like those franchises, it's a must.

Otherwise, I won't be watching it.

One months worth just for the Mandalorian is worth it IMO. Getting 8 hours of entertainment for under 10 bucks is definitely worth it for me considering I spend more on a single movie.

Definitely worth it. All of Star Wars, Marvel, Disney, Pixar, National Geographic, and new releases for a pittance. (Mulan cost extra when it first released.)

I say no - except for a month at a time. Unless you have young kids of your own you would not watch much.

Binge the Mandalorian in a month and then cancel.

Wait for more new content - when series are completed - then repeat as needed.

It's a quality stream. I like the way it's organized. The amount of content is amazing. It's pretty inexpensive. Cancel at any time.

Yeah, Disney+ is good for a 1 and done once a year. I have it now while kids are on break... Mando was great... already have it set to expire.

I've paid for 1 month and watched 2 seasons of Mando.

S1 - free trial week when it was complete
S2 - paid for a month and watched a few other things

I wouldn't recommend subscribing year round. At least yet. This time next year might be a different story though.

That was a nice bonus. Lot of good documentaries.

I'm not a huge Disney fan, so I'm not sure I'd pay for it if I didn't have it with my Verizon plan. But it seems simple enough to do a 1 month trial when the grandkids are over.

Read this. Not all of the new series will debut in 2021(quite a few will), but Wanda Vision (Marvel) first episode drops Jan 15th. Disney plus is really ramping up new content.

We watch more of the classic Disney content than we do MCU or anything else.

You should try to keep your grandkids as far as possible from any Disney content. You should also try to avoid giving Disney any money. That company is infested with some really evil scumbags.

I would say yes, but I have a 6 yr old.

I would ask if one of your kids already has it, and if so, if they will let you use their account. You can have up to 4 devices signed in at once. My parents use my account mostly for the kiddo, but my mom will watch documentaries and she recently watched Hamilton a couple times.

By 2022, Disney+ will be as close to "essential" as a streaming service can get, with roughly three Star Wars and three Marvel series debuting per year, not to mention all the various new movies and other series. We'll start to see an increase in Disney+ content over the next year - especially with the imminent "Star" section that will house all of the more adult 20th Century Fox fare (the Alien movies, Deadpool, adult comedies, adult dramas, etc.) - but 2022 is when the service will really take off.

It may be essential for families, but lack of content for adults is a problem and isn't changing. They have a family focus that isn't really seen with the original programming at Netflix, HBOMAX, etc.

The non Disney like content will go to Hulu, but then there is always the Bundle (Disney+/Hulu/ESPN+) and Disney will be adding content to all of them.

Good point. That bundle will have value beyond kids/families what with SEC football and basketball (1 football and 2 hoops games per team) games airing exclusively on ESPN+ starting in 2024.

Did you even read my post? I specifically addressed the adult content aspect, which *is* changing. They're literally adding a ton of adult movies - via 20th Century Fox's library - to Disney+ in 2021.

I read lots about star wars and super heroes in your post, then at the end some speculation without any detail about programming for grownups, which is fitting because it is how the mouse views r-rated content. They aren't stepping to HBOs corner and don't really feel like they need to.

Star isn't "speculation." It's an officially-announced platform, set to be a "hub" of Disney+, which will sit alongside the Marvel, Star Wars, Nat Geo, etc hubs at the top of the screen, and will house all of their adult content (i.e. most of the 20th Century Fox library). This is a fact and something that *is* happening. The are countless articles all over the internet about Star, with screenshots and everything, centered around Disney's official announcement of the platform earlier this month.

However, I just did some more research, and learned that Star, as of now, is only launching internationally in 2021, in basically all territories that aren't the United States, where Hulu doesn't exist. For now, in the U.S., Hulu will remain the adult content platform for Disney's adult fare. So...

-In the U.S., Hulu = Disney's adult fare
-In the rest of the world, Star (which will reside inside Disney+) = Disney's adult fare

That said, it sounds as if Disney will eventually dissolve Hulu in the U.S. and adopt the Star moniker/strategy here as well, potentially in the next couple of years, so everything is under one roof, all over the world. In other words, the global rollout of Star in the coming months is likely a preview of what's to come in the U.S. And either way, they ARE "stepping to HBO's corner," starting in February, at least internationally. It's not official yet here in the U.S., but the writing's on the wall...

Interesting - wonder what that would mean for Hulu+Live TV which has been my streaming provider for cable-esque channels for a couple of years. I love Hulu+Live. Having that integrated with Hulu content is a big bonus for my choice of provider (YT TV while comparable for channels has little or no exclusive content i would watch now that Cobra Kai has moved to Netflix).

I did just find out though by digging since you mentioned the bundle.. they used to not offer the Disney+ESPN+Hulu bundle with the Live option but now they do with or without ads (on Hulu originals).

So your choices are now

Hulu 5.99
Hulu no ads 11.99
Hulu+Live TV 64.99
Hulu+Live TV no ads 70.99

Hulu Disney+ ESPN+ bundle 12.99
Hulu no ads Disney+ ESPN+ 18.99
Hulu+Live TV Disney+ ESPN+ 70.99
Hulu+Live TV no ads Disney+ ESPN+ 77.99

If and when they do dissolve Hulu, I imagine it'll be at least a couple of years from now. But my guess that the live TV service would simply be under Disney+ at that point.

You get Disney+ and Hulu for free if you have Verizon Wireless "play more" plan (maybe it's "do more "). Based upon my recent call to Verizon, it isn't just gree for 12 months... it's part of the plan.

meh... I'll take my HBO Max for free from AT&T instead. It also costs more, so saving more if you like.

To date there is 10:1 more that I have or will watch on HBO than on Disney+Hulu combined.

I've been on Verizon forever and am happy with the service, so the free programmimg is a plus. I'm not switching to ATT for free HBO.

do you pay for HBO? just curious. it's close to a wash on price so if you are or would pay for both then it's irrelevant I guess.

Personally I would never pay for Disney+Hulu+ESPN+ bundle most likely (I've paid Disney for 1 month so far) although I do get Hulu since it is my Live Tv option. But I've always had HBO (for 20+ years) and would pay for it even if I did not get it for free.

I'm not saying you should switch carrier anyway - just saying for me getting much more bang for the buck with free HBO (14.99 per month) than I would with free Disney+Hulu+ESPN (12.99 per month) especially when i watch 10x as much on HBO.

PS my kids are out of college, if they were younger I'd have a closer to 50/50 view of those options I'm sure. To each his own.
