LOST
Wire
Band of Brothers
Americans
True Detective (season 1, although Ali was great in season 3)
Justified
Seinfeld
West Wing
Arrested Development (not the Netflix version)
Office
Sherlock
GOT
Sliders (not amazing television, but it introduced my young self to SciFi for the first time)
24 (for what it was at the time)
Parks and Rec (i know it's meh, to most, but it's still pretty charming to me all around)

haven't seen much of Chernobyl or Breaking Bad. Watched a bit here and there but never got into them enough to finish, and i dropped HBO in Chernobyl's case.

while incredibly flawed in so many ways, i'll argue that LOST is the greatest show in the television medium. most action or suspense shows were contained and fairly low budget until then. we wouldn't have television as we know it today if not for LOST.

Interesting reading all the suggestions - Zombie's lists reflect more of choices. It's pretty obvious most of you are younger than me.

I think the 50s were dubbed the "golden age" of TV.

After channel surfing this week, I was reminded of how good The Twilight Zone was (the 1959 - 1964 version).

Also, I'm a big fan of Columbo.

Was WKRP in Cincinnati mentioned?

The older I get, the more I think Mary Tyler Moore is the best sitcom of all time

I have watched episodes from this series at least once a week since I discovered this show way back in 1991. I taped the show off of Comedy Central and Sci Fi and would watch them constantly in college. I still have those VCR tapes in a box in my closet. I have all but about 4-5 episodes on DVD and now I can put on their Twitch channel any time I need a fix.

After nearly 30 years, I still enjoy rewatching these movies for the 50th time. I love this show more than any other.
I used to roll out of bed on Saturday mornings at the ungodly hour of 10 a.m. during college to watch this.
I would lay on the couch, horribly hungover, laughing at this show. every laugh a new experience in pain!

I don't think I saw All In The Family mentioned. that's got to be on an all time great list

i don't love MTM as much as DVD, but she was fantastic at comedy as Laura Petrie.

That is a great one too

But the supporting cast is just nails
I do not know if there has been a better one

I watched roseanne for the first time a couple years ago and was shocked how much I liked it. Both hilarious and a lot of depth.

This is still one of my favorite sitcom scenes of all time:

What really sucks is not only was the plot/development/dialogue not that great in the end of GoT, that final season production value was so off.

Remember the battle of Winterfell? Should've been the highlight of the entire series, with so much happening and an overload of emotions and visuals, but it was near too difficult to even see everything.

Id throw "Rome" in there.

Mad Men is tops for me. I feel like I could just watch the series over and over. The characters are just so layered it's great.

Have you?

Very curious about that.

I've only watched a few multiple times and I don't think Mad Men will be one I do that with... but maybe.

Sopranos - on my third rewatch from the start now, but I've seen many episodes multiple times out of sequence just randomly on HBO.

The Wire - done 2 full watches, due for a third

Breaking Bad - likewise I've done 2, due for a third.

GOT - I always rewatched previous season right before the new season. Have not seen the final season again yet.

ST: TNG - probably seen every episode 2-4 times and some 10-12 times. Never rewatched it all the way through though - more episodic in nature and too many filler episodes for that.

The Wonder Years - just recently rewatched it.

Justified - due for a 2nd watch

Can't think of any others I've really rewatched or plan to - of course there are the episodic sitcoms that I've watched countless times on syndication like Seinfeld, Cheers, MASH, Andy Griffith, Dick van Dyke, etc. and I watch repeats of HIMYM and That 70s Show all the time with my son as he is a fanatic for those.

Just a second time, will do it again sometime down the road.

No love for The West Wing? I did not watch it when it was first run. My daughter recently got me to watch it and it is fantastic - at least the first 4 seasons the Aaron Sorkin wrote.

I was shocked it took so long for West Wing to be brought up. And no love for the original CSI and ER?

I'm a person who maintains lists so......here you go. I started this list in 2002 after TV Guide published their Top 50 shows of all time. I made my own and it has changed a lot - the 2nd honorable mention list is shows that were originally in my Top 50 and have been bumped over the years.

1. The Sopranos
2. Breaking Bad
3. The Wire
4. Cheers
5. Seinfeld
6. The Office (UK-BBC)*
7. The Andy Griffith Show
8. M*A*S*H
9. All in the Family

13. LOST
14. I Love Lucy

19. 30 Rock
20. The Wonder Years
21. Star Trek: The Next Generation
22. Westworld (HBO 3 seasons)

25. The Office (US-NBC)
26. The Mary Tyler Moore Show
27. The Cosby Show
28. Hogan's Heroes
29. My So-Called Life
30. The Simpsons

45. Better Call Saul (AMC 4 seasons)
46. Big Bang Theory
47. St. Elsewhere
48. ER
49. Orange is the New Black
50. True Detective

I love your list and will use to determine future lazy Saturday binging. As a millennial, shows like MASH are before my time but I need a list to know order of importance.

Few personal gripes:
**Where is scrubs?**
Also, Chuck is very underrated and maybe something you should check out.
Friends/Sex in the City? Really?
Regardless of how great the show is, I'll never watch anything Cosby related (even owner some of his albums)

I feel like to do this thread correctly we need standardized criteria. "Best Show" is very subjective, and each person has their own reasons for liking one over another.

I'd suggest the following categories to rate shows on:

Cultural Impact
Re-watchability
Acting
Production Values
Writing

So using those categories, you even the field between the slow burn shows like the Americans and the pop culture phenomenons like Friends.

And because I like to stir the pot, I'm surprised that 24 and Batman haven't been mentioned. 24 at least for my peer group was must watch TV in the early 2000s and the real time take on telling a one day story is and was a unique way to approach a story.

For Batman, I've rewatched the whole series probably 8 times and I still use clips from episodes when I'm teaching. Behind the extreme camp was some witty dialogue and comedic genius by Adam West to hold what should have been a stupid show together.

There are way too many millennials in this thread that have never seen The Andy Griffith Show.

Yes, many people born in the 80s haven't seen a 60s sitcom. It isn't even top 100 all time, though, so no big deal.
