What do you do with dust jackets that come on your hardcover books? I've been saving a big stack of them and I'm starting to wonder what the point in that is.

I keep them on the books but that is just me

Keep them on there like a normal person.

I take them off when I start a book, and put them back on when I finish it.

Some just look so cartoonish and bright. I guess I prefer the simple spine with letters versus whatever extra pictures and information ends up coming on the jacket.

I guess that antique store gal in Back to the Future Part II was not entirely accurate when she referred to dust jackets as a "quaint" thing they did back in the '80s.

This. I can't read a book with a jacket on it. I fiddle with it constantly.

Wrong. The dust buster was referred to as quaint. The dust jacket was mentioned to lead into that, of course that was before they had dust resistant paper.

Take them off when reading and put them back on when finished. I don't keep books, but donate them. I don't want to donate a book without the jacket.

The fact that this thread exists makes me think that some of you are cutting them up and using them as rolling papers.

This is just stupid....That is what the bible is for. Bible papers are a hell of lot closer to zigzags than a dust jacket.
