I mentioned Jurassic Bark in my own post, but defending this one because I felt it is one of the most thoughtful secular takes on God I've ever seen.

Futurama is such a fantastic show both because of its humor and because they're able to make genuinely thoughtful episodes like all these mentioned. Devil's Hands are Idle Playthings is another one in the same vein.

I have never watched The Expanse

Are there episode recommendations for that show?

I've watched the Futurama series countless times.....I've seen Jurassic Bark once and that was enough.

It's a slow burn like "The Wire". Just an outstanding show with excellent plot lines and characters that progress from ep1 to now. I can't pick a particular episode that is head and shoulders above others. Maybe the one that describes how the Epstein drive came into being (S2E6 - Paradigm Shift). Or the one where Miller dies on Eros with the Protomolecule (S2E5). In the current season, S5E4, Gaugamela is the highlight of this season so far.

It starts a bit slow, but it's an excellent series. I would just start at the beginning.

Need some help from the hive mind to narrow this down for The Expanse: the first six eps of S3 were all insanely great, also S3E11 (the surprise deceleration one) and S5E04.

Season 1 ep 4 - CQB- The Donnager is attacked

Season 5 ep 4- Guagamela- Marco's plan....this may be my favorite in the series

Season 3 finale - Abaddons Gate. Just so damn good.

You might need some context for those episodes to truly hit home. The series premier I think does a phenomenal job of setting the world and the dynamic between Earth, Mars and the Belt to such a great degree.

That said, I will also add, this season (5) is the best one yet.

You should find time to read the books.

ST: TOS will always be my favorite sci-fi series for nostalgic, historic, and influential reasons. Gene Roddenberry had plenty of faults, but sci-fi fans and writers owe him a lot for his pioneering vision. It's hard to find something in sci-fi after TOS that wasn't influenced by ST in some way.

That said, there's a lot of dreck in those three seasons to go along with the great episodes. The last season in particular had some real stinkers. Any list of the best sci-fi episodes should include these, though:

Balance of Terror
The City on the Edge of Forever
Mirror, Mirror
The Doomsday Machine
The Trouble With Tribbles

Those are all bona fide classics.
