I know Christmas was a couple of weeks ago, but I had DVR'd "FX's Chrismas Carol" and finally got to watch it. I'm wondering if anyone else has seen it and what are your thoughts.

I thought it was good - a vastly different take than the comedic offerings or the variations on the story directly.

Very dark - that's for sure.

Thoughts?

As a side note - my favorite version of "A Christmas Carol" is the animated version with Jim Carey doing the voice of Scrooge.

Didn't really enjoy the FX version of Christmas Carol, my favorite version is the one with Alastair Sim...of course the Muppet Christmas Carrol is a favorite as well.

My favorite is the one with Captain Picard.

I hope to get to this one next year

I watched Scrooged this year... I enjoy that movie and celebrate all things Bill Murray, but it's pretty damn bizarre to be honest

Patton supersedes a mere captain.

I saw it last year so I don't remember a lot of specifics. I remember Scrooge acknowledged his cruelty but wasn't given overnight redemption as in the Dickens story. I really loved that ambiguous ending and the overall darker tone.

The implied witchcraft, however, was kind of stupid.

The best Christmas Carol is Scrooge with Albert Finney. (1970). We watch it every year but they only showed it Christmas Eve this year. I have DVRd it for next year. Warning: it has singing. But a positive: Alec Guinness plays Marley.

I agree that the Alastair Sim version is the best one. It's the one that was broadcast when I was young, so I grew up with it.

The Muppet one is good, too.

I thought it was widely acknowledged that the Muppet version was the authoritative version. Followed by the Disney one with... Scrooge.

Love the Muppet one. I plan on reading the book next year, and hopefully watching a few other adaptations.
