People falling down
Walking into trees/poles
Stepping on a rake
Being electrocuted
Paint cans tied to ropes swinging in and smashing someone in the face

Some movies build the story around this type of stuff and it works, other times it just feels cheap and dumb. What are some of your favorites?

Are you coming after the Home Alone fans now that Christmas has passed?

In all seriousness it's like you said, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

Paul Blart falling off a Segway? Not really my thing.

An example of where I think it's used really well?

I'll go with the Nice Guys. From the violence Russell Crowe inflicts on Gosling and others, to the scene where Gosling punches through a window to break in and almost kills himself, Gosling searching Crowe for his nonexistent ankle gun, etc.

Edgar Wright's movies are also full of physical comedy that works.

The scene with Gosling taking a dump, smoking, reading a magazine and holding a gun. The physical choreography is up there with NBA power forwards in the paint. Classics scene!

Chevy Chase was who I immediately thought of. Esp. his early season stuff in Community, like when he hypnotized Britta and started falling over the drumset in the middle of the session.

And Charlie Chaplin. Oh, the Marx Brothers weren't half bad either.

Just imagine how 1/6 would've played out if DC hadn't had such strict gun laws.

Two people starred his post as of the time of this signature. Those 3 people are allowed to vote in the US.

I agree they were great at slapstick, but they were so much more. For example Groucho was the king of rapid fire one liners. "So you didn't think that was very funny, well how about this, or this, or this . . . " A few jokes in, you're even laughing at the meh ones. Also it is not my intent to be demeaning of slapstick, it is very difficult pull off consistently.

Great movie! The scene where they duck back in the elevator after the gunshots is another good one. Hilarious.

Fun fact: They made this scene really long just to reach the episode length. Ended up being the most memorable part of the episode.

Can't believe it took so long to get a Three Stooges mention.

Also add Tim Conway to this list. He was a freaking master of physical comedy.

Yep. He's a freaking genius. This still cracks me up all these years later. The story is that Harvey Korman literally pissed his pants from laughter while performing in this with Conway.
