Group 8:
The Breaking of the Fellowship ft. In Dreams (69%)
The Uruk-Hai
The End of All Things (15% -- tie with The Uruk-Hai)

Our final vote broke one of the ties, to put The Steward of Gondor (ft Billy Boyd's Edge of Night) over Many Meetings.

With the other tie, I took The End of All Things over The Uruk-Hai. While both are great tracks, I think the former should get in based on the momentous-ness of the scene it plays over. (The destruction of the ring and collapse of Barad-dur.)

Will get Round 2 ready to go in an hour or so.

It was the one of the last tracks I removed from the final 8.

It's really hard to take out any of the FOTR ones that are in there, honestly.
FOTR is in my mind probably the greatest single film soundtrack of all time. I can sit there and listen to the entire thing and it evokes every emotion of watching the movie. I can hear and picture the film in each track as it plays and see it so clearly in my head. Granted, I can do that with most of the trilogy, but FOTR is just so special.

Absolutely love that score.
Saw the Houston Symphony play the soundtrack live along with the movie about 10 years ago. It was an awesome experience.

I saw the New York Philharmonic play it to the movie as well.

Howard Shore was there, and I was standing about 30 feet from him. If not for the security guarding the doorway, I might have even gone up and met him. (If I had the courage to do it.)

An epic night.

Voted for all higher seeds, except for one. However, I think you are correct in the confusion between Ride of the Rohirrim and Battle of the Pelennor. I'm sure others made the same mistake I did, in the last round. Glad I am able to remedy that mistake in the head-to-head.

Also, I have to add:

In the history of cinema, there are probably only a couple of series/movies where you can post that many videos of scenes, and every one of them is absolutely amazing. And that had to be cut down very harshly to even get to those scenes.

I'm almost certain that the track names created confusion. Luckily it looks like the clips have certainly cleared that up based on the voting far.

I always have imagined Sean Connery cast as Gandalf saying, "You mean to tell me the fields of the Pelennor have become a tourist attraction?"

You never put two from the same group against each other in the first round of the knockout!

Oh, and if it helps, your favorite track would've had a hell of a time against any of the top 8.

Votes down to a trickle, and every matchup is pretty well decided.

I'll leave it open for another hour or so.

I can tell you right now....these elite 8 matchups are gonna be a doozy.

2 The Breaking of the Fellowship (ft. In Dreams) (80%) vs 15 The Last March of the Ents (20%)

3 The Ride of the Rohirrim (32%) vs 14 The Battle of the Pelennor Fields (68%)

7 Forth Eorlingas (68%) vs 10 Samwise the Brave (32%)

8 The Return of the King (56%) vs 9 Helm's Deep (44%)

A pretty good showing from "King of the Golden Hall", considering its competition. 8-9 was the closest matchup.

Pour one out for some very good tracks which were knocked off this round. Especially Last March of the Ents, which is a personal favorite of mine.

The [eight] have left Minas Morgul...

For the elite 8, I'm embedding the full tracks, rather than video clips. For the music nerds like me, I would suggest listening to the actual tracks to best make decisions from here on out. I will provide some gifs for context, though.

FOTR has 4 tracks in the elite 8, ROTK has 3, and TTT has 1.

This is exactly how I would rank the three soundtracks myself.

Elite 8 -- Results

1. The Bridge of Khazad-dum (74%) vs 8. The Return of the King (26%)

2. The Breaking of the Fellowship (67%) vs 7. Forth Eorlingas (33%)

14. The Battle of the Pelennor Fields (63%) vs 6. The Ring Goes South (37%)

4. Concerning Hobbits (74%) vs 5. The Lighting of the Beacons (26%)

It says a lot about this trilogy that you could put the four losing tracks from this round against the top four tracks from just about any franchise not named Star Wars. Every single one of those four scenes in an all-timer.

And this is why Howard Shore is my second favorite film composer behind John Williams.

It really is incredible how strongly these tracks convey emotion. The terror in Bridge of Khazad Dum, the joyful innocence in Concerning Hobbits, the sorrow yet hopefulness in Breaking of the Fellowship, the smoldering intensity in Battle of the Pelennor Fields. These soundtracks (especially FOTR) truly are remarkable achievements.
