Strange diagnosis - stage 4 lung cancer. Learned just 3 weeks ago? To get diagnosed at stage 4 with no symptoms other than lump in throat (lymph node?) seems crazy. Seems like there would be a lot of labored breathing, coughing up blood, lethargy etc.
Could just be curse of the child star.

That's freaking scary how fast that moved.

When my grandmother passed away from cancer several years ago it was rapid. She lived in an Alzheimer's unit w/my grandfather (his disease was several years more advanced than her).

She complained of not filling well. Fast forward a few days and they found she had cancer throughout her torso/abdomen. She died within a few more days. All of this in less than a week. She was the type to never complain about feeling sick so she could have been feeling bad for a while and nobody would have known otherwise.

More common than you think. Cancer has a propensity to grow painlessly.

Some lung cancers will grow undetected then suddenly cause the body produce a large fluid buildup around the lungs. Sometimes this is the first symptom people have. A lot of other cancers, like colon cancer, kidney cancer, and pancreatic cancer are often not caught until later stages. It's one of the reasons colonoscopies get important as you get older. Pancreatic cancer is a particular *****: Even people with access to world class healthcare like Steve Jobs and Alex Trebek (whom I assume saw doctors regularly) didn't get diagnosed until later in the course.

Sheet man, thanks for what you wrote. I have been putting off a colonoscopy for a while (I'm 53), but should probably just get it done.

PS. Ever get a PS5? I have been following ur plight and think "if I see one available, I am going to buy it for Cactus Jack!

Yes get the scope done. If all clear you don't have to go back for another 10 years. You'll never forgive yourself if something is there and you don't find out until too late and you could've cleared it up.

but not really. often times news of an untimely death is a reminder to us to get checked out. Even in death good can come of it if it raises awareness.

True. Reading about celebrity deaths has often made me think about foreign objects and digits entering my orifices.

And maybe a reminder to donate to cancer research. Can you imagine the day when we say "Remember when cancer used to be lethal?" Sounds pretty good.

On that note, prostate is another thing to get checked.

Although most prostate cancer is usually slow growing and symptoms typically occur soon enough to treat, it's better to catch it early.

Sorry to hear that. Lost my uncle to kidney cancer in 2019. Very similar course. Thankfully got him on hospice and he didn't suffer.

I haven't gotten one but probably won't any time soon. I've personally been very fortunate over the last year, I'll buy my own when I feel like I can stand the time-wasting. I'm in grad school so kind of difficult to justify both cost and time.

Grad school for what? If u see one and buy it, let me know and I will send $100, no questions asked. Offer expires 12/31/21... but only if I get a colostomy and prostrate check this calendar year. Sounds random, but serious offer.
