In signs the aliens developed a treat via a Nebulizer to treat asthma and just wanted to cure the son. But that meathead uncle beat him up with a bat and poured water on him. Why else would a species that is harmed by water come to a planet that is 71% water and has random "murder storms" on land. We all just needed to take the alien vaccine to eradicate asthma.
The kid in the 6th sense was a Mental patient that saw random people in gruesome ways and at the end they just allowed him to believe his reality because they knew if he thought there were actual ghost talking to him he could help them leave him alone.
