Nickel Creek is still together???
They broke up 15 years ago and had a brief reunion and album 6-7 years ago.
I had not heard anything since. Is this some one off thing?

To tell you the truth, I thought the Devil's solo was the better of the two.
I floated that one the last time this song was discussed and some people took an extraordinary amount of offense to the ideaZombie Jon Snow said:TX AG 88 said:

The Devil played better but....
a. The Devil lost anyway because he cheated. Supposed to be a one on one contest - but when the Devil played a band of demons joined in. Disqualified.
b. And then there is the theory that the Devil won anyway in the end because... Johnny was arrogant and prideful and when he won that golden fiddle he likely was led down a path of denial and sin so the Devil would end up winning anyway and Johnny ends up in hell.
Notice that Johnny mentions it might be a sin to take the bet but he does. And he is much more arrogant after than he was before. He is already heading down that path.
Summary: The devil might have just played Johnny all along - by cheating and letting him win a hollow victory for the long game of his soul in the end.
That's not canon according to "The Devil Comes Back to Georgia". The devil was definitely defeated, or at least he felt so. To wit:Zombie Jon Snow said:TX AG 88 said:

Quote:
It's been ten long years since the devil laid his fiddle at Johnny's feet
And it burned inside his mind the way he suffered that defeat
In the darkest pits of hell the devil hatched an evil plan
To tempt the fiddle player for he's just a mortal man
