Aggressively mediocre, the updated version of "Tom & Jerry" that premieres in theaters and on HBO Max today is a depressing affair, a film that reminds one of similarly hollow uses of beloved properties like "Yogi Bear" and "The Smurfs." Although at least those knew to focus on their timeless characters. "Tom & Jerry" barely understands the physical comedy that made the cat and mouse first-round entries in the animated Hall of Fame, focusing instead on a celebrity wedding at a fancy New York hotel and the people who work there. A few sequences of classic T&J comedy aren't nearly enough to make up for the dull plotting and flat characters in this soulless product, one that will fail equally for adults who grew up on Tom and Jerry, and their kids who have never heard of these characters.

My kids wanted to watch it, so we did last night. I agree it wasn't very good. I caught my kids being bored during the human parts. I thought it was weird that Tom and Jerry were secondary characters in their own movie. The Sonic movie was much better at incorporating an animated character into real-life.
Also, the audio was all over the place where audio volume would change within the same scene. Maybe it was a streaming issue?

I figured this would suck since it was coming out so soon and didn't seem very star-studded... at least from the 10-second YouTube ads I skip.

Colin Jost was on Jimmy Fallon the other night. He mentioned that he was in Tom & Jerry and then started talking about whether it would make more money than his wife's upcoming movie (Black Widow). It was pretty amusing.

Ok,,,I've got to vent on this one....

There are few films that make me feel blessed that when I drink beverages during a movie I must take copious visits to the mens room. This was one of those films. Because every time I had the urge to get up and take a leak I knew I would enjoy that sensation way more than sitting in a comfortable chair watching this tripe.

The main actress was god awful. I know nothing about her and she could be great and just realized that since everyone else wasn't trying on this then why should she? Not to mention the dude playing the groom had the biggest DERP face I've ever seen. Literally every scene he was in all I could hear in mind was, "DERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRP."

And the writing behind this was the worst. I wasn't expecting much but hell I was expecting more than this. The movie at least gives us an idea of how **** this is with a scene near the beginning where our lead "tricks" this supposedly very successful and intelligent woman into believing she's just failed an interview. You mean to tell me this woman applying for this illustrious job who FLEW IN FOR THE INTERVIEW FROM EUROPE: 1. Never got the name of the person she'd be reporting to 2. Never spoke with this person over the phone ahead of time 3. Never spoke with the receptionist upon arriving as was made evident when dumb character lead actress walked up with "the most liek Awesumest ResuME EVAR" which immediately prompted the higher ups to be called down and 4. Was so successful and has worked for apparently the most famous hotels overseas and STILL BELIEVED that she lost the interview to a person who never identified themselves as an employee and who was actually in charge? This was a 5 minute scene. A mere 5 minutes that perfectly displayed of how little ****s were given about this movie.

The past several years I thought I had learned how much suffering I might have to endure as a parent of 3 children seeing things and doing things that as a man without children I'd rather not do. I thought I understood this. But now I realize there's a much deeper layer of hell unexplored waiting for me with films like this.

This. My kids watched the crap out of Tom and Jerry. They're a little older than his, 16&13 so DVDs were still used.

My kids liked it.

Spider-Man isn't a "kids" movie. The demographic they are going for is same as all MCU movies, whether its the Toby version, Garfield or Holland versions. Just b/c they are superheroes doesn't immediately mean they are at all geared towards kids.

I'll be honest. I've never enjoyed tom and jerry.

I did enjoy the split second cameo in the animal shelter
