I'm hearing and seeing rumors of Renner being the next victim of cancel culture and of course the Hawkeye show to go with it.

I have no idea what he did or honestly where the line is for someone who happens to say or do something that someone else doesn't agree with. But at the very least it seems like I'm seeing more and more characters and performing artists get wiped off the entertainment map, and their art with it,

I think I'm getting worn out completely with cancel culture and I'm ready for the rest of humanity and social media to find a less destructive way to make a statement in what's right and wrong.

Fake and/or old news, IMO. We Got This Covered is the absolute worst clickbait site in comic book movie news.

I believe the news from around a year ago was that Renner would be removed due to claims his (ex?)wife had made, but... as recently as last week, they were still filming.

Edit: WGTC also looks to be the only site reporting this. I think there's nothing to see here.

This is one where I hope I'm wrong and I would gladly eat a plate of crow to make it not so.... hoping "wegotthiscovered" does have it wrong.

Seriously, though, we went through this whole is-Renner-cancelled thing a year or so ago. Some allegations popped up, but they either weren't serious enough or were untrue, and everyone moved on. There was even talk of whether or not Hawkeye would happen, but Disney did their due diligence and decided it wasn't an issue and Renner has booked work continuously since.

Jeremy Renner has never impressed or entertained me much. Like, he's not a bad actor per se, but he just doesn't seem to have any charisma at all. He really adds nothing to any movie he's in. He does drama well enough, but I've never seen a movie he's in and not preferred it was someone else playing that role.

Can't really explain it. But if he disappeared from the industry forever, I wouldn't miss him.

IIRC he was good in The Town. Very different role for him.

Also, I don't know why this thread got bumped, but isn't this kind of a situation where cancel culture worked correctly? There were accusations, it was presumably looked into, and there wasn't enough there to cancel his show, so it carries on just fine.

I guess it could be Disney burying things under the rug or whatever but since he wasn't cancelled, it's kind of working as intended, right?

I think Hawkeye becomes a more interesting character on rewatches. But yeah, I've seen a couple of the other movies referenced and do not remember Jeremy Renner being in them.

His best role was playing Jeffery Dahmer. I liked him in The Town, Wind River, and 28 Weeks Later. I remember he was good in that short lived cop show The Unusuals. I thought it was pretty funny, but it was too offbeat for most folks.

You're insinuating that Cancel Culture can be a good thing or productive thing if "done properly". Just my IMO, but there's no such thing as "good" or "proper" Cancel Culture.

Someone does something truly improper (based on law or corporate policies), they get reported, an investigation ensues, they get punished...that's not cancel culture, that's the process that's been occurring for quite a while now in society.

Cancel Culture is the recent belief that because you have a social media account and access to the internet the entire world is awaiting your opinion on topics or people that have no impact on you. They simply offend your delicate sensibilities, or you have deep personal issues that cause resentment towards these people who you are in no way related to or affected by. So you decide the world must bend to your personal opinion and "cancel" the person or topic that's gotten you in such a snit.

THAT'S Cancel Culture. And no, there's no situation where its proper.

And yeah, Renner was excellent in The Town, Bourne Legacy, and Wind River. And of course as Hawkeye.

Brian, how you can say this about Renner while claiming the ZS cut of JL is great....well, it explains a lot.

So then you are in favor of some ****stick on twitter leading a brigade to end someone's career without any actual facts. So even once the person is proven innocent, millions of people around the world will still just assume the person did the things they were accused of.
Once someone is actually guilty of doing something reprehensible, then they deserve anything coming their way.
