My 10 yr old is learning guitar and doing pretty well at it. Someone recommended rhe chord buddy but my concerns with that is that it is too different from playing without it. Ive never played guitar so i know nothing. Just wanted opinions on the chord buddy. Thanks!

I never heard of it so was watching a video on YouTube to see what it is, and during the video my 5 year old said 'ok that is not jamming' lol. The guy was playing knocking on heavens door showing how it works.

If she's in lessons, I'd say let her learn in a natural way.
Strumming on time and changing chord shapes is a dynamic process.
How do you play something that doesn't have c, g, d or em?

It's quite a crutch and is even limited in its own scope.

I vote no, not for $50 anyway.

Yes crutch....i was trying to think of a way to phrase my concern and thats def the right word. She is pretty impressive....she wanted to learn whats up by 4 non blondes and taught herself with youtube and a chord book in like 1 hour. I am happy to spend the money to support her passion but only if its value added.

My brother uses yousician and swears by it. He's been playing for 10 years though, and he's gotten into a lot of old swing and jazz, so I'm sure it helps learning all those weird chords.

I don't think that product is much value add, mostly because it can only do 4 chords. That really limits your song selection.
Your example, what's up, cannot be played with that device.

It sounds like she's already on her way. A to Bm to D is a good mix of finger positioning, so if she can do that while keeping timing, she's off to a great start.
