I love their sound.

It's a more trippy Mumford and Sons. But darker

'Darker than Mumford' doesnt say much. They're a white barbershop quartet with a banjo.

Weird coincidence, but that exact video and basically the same question was the subject of a thread on the GB a month or 2 back. Just kind of odd since it was uploaded to YouTube 4 years ago.

I like a decent amount of their stuff, but not this song. The guy playing the cello sounds like a cartoon frog. It's a great music video though.

Check out Home Free if you haven't heard of them. They've been around a while but I just discovered them.
A capella group like Pentatonix but with a southern country sound.

Everything you are hearing here is by voice - the bass line, the harmonica like sound, the beatbox stuff, and the vocals are great harmony.

I've mostly heard covers from them of well known staples. You can go a down a rabbit hole of their videos.

Tanya,

Don't know if you've ever heard of Split Lip Rayfield, but I think you'll like them. Unfortunately, they lost their lead singer to throat cancer a few years back, but they're still at it as a 3-piece outfit. Definitely prefer their stuff when it was all 4 of the guys, but the newer stuff holds-up well.

Great band to see live if you get a chance. Lots of energy.

Edit: So I'm listening to The Dead South right now. I may have to take back my recommendation of Split Lip Rayfield to you. As it turns out, these 2 bands don't have very much of anything in common. Completely different sound.

A few other bluegrass bands you might like

Trampled by Turtles (absolutely fantastic live)

Devil Makes Three

Goodnight, Texas

Greensky Bluegrass

Steeldrivers (they've blown up a bit since Chris Stapelton got big, he used to sing for them)

And of course, if you like a little rap with your grass (you'll recognize their sound if you watched Justified):

I love it

Went down a black hole of listening to their stuff

Buddy of mine in Seattle a few years back told me about these guys. I like the sound of a lot of their songs

Trampled by Turtles are awesome!

I'll add Dan Tyminski to your list. He's played backup in some bigger name groups, but I like his solo stuff a lot. He was also one of the singers for the Soggy Bottom Boys from O Brother Where Art Thou.

These dudes penned possibly the greatest breakup song of all time off the same album and it's 100x better than the song in the OP:

Tyminski was also part of Union Station the backing band for Alison Krauss and they mixed in their own stuff and his solo stuff with hers over the years in concerts.

Wonderful harmonies but the entire band is insanely talented. Check out the guitar banjo and fiddle playing here although this song does not feature Tyminski as much as the others.
