Watching Speed and I'm surprised the bomber only wanted $3.7 million dollars. Even back in the 1990s, that wasn't a ridiculous amount of money. In the process of saving that money, they destroyed hundreds, if not thousands of cars, a city bus, a 747, and an entire subway line. Oh yeah, and they paid the bomber the money anyways, although the money was destroyed. The cost of everything was probably in the hundreds of millions, perhaps even a billion dollars. It would have been a whole lot cheaper just to pay the ransom. Even if they bomber keeps trying to get more money, it would have been cheaper to just keep paying him. Although, from Keanu's perspective, it was probably worth it since he got to hook up with Sandra Bullock.

If they paid him off then we wouldn't have gotten Speed 2.

It's like 7-10 mil today. It was a boatload of money then and is a lot of money now. No city is paying that ransom for some crappy city bus with a max of 4 passengers.

It's just so great and cracks me up every time I hear it.
It was creepy to me that the Jon Benet ransom note seemed to take cues from multiple movies of the early 90's era, this one included.
