From what I heard from people who know him, Tom is genuinely a nice guy to boot. Makes it easier to like him.

If i count who is still actively working, my "S" tier would be:

1. Tom Cruise
2. Tom Hanks
3. Denzel Washington
4. Leo DiCaprio

The "A" tier would still be actors who are fantastic and definitely movie stars, I just think those guys are on another level.

Cruise is definitely not the best actor, because he generally plays "Tom Cruise". However, his acting is still good, and never distracts me from the movie. I also probably enjoy 90% or more of Tom Cruise's movies. Is there anyone else right now who still does so many successful blockbusters (Forgetting about The Mummy)? Also, the Last Samurai is one of my favorite movies.

I almost wouldn't classify Hanks or Streep as movie stars, but as actors. I know it's a fine distinction and they are definitely actors who star in movies, but when I think movie star, I think glamor and magnetism. Not necessarily being super attractive or having sex appeal, though that helps.

I hear you, but the general consensus nowadays is that Ford kind of mails it in, and he's not really in big movies anymore, save for Star Wars. He might be the most legendary, sure, but I don't know that he's the greatest, in the present sense, if that makes any sense. That, and he's a fairly common man-around-town. He eats out around L.A./Brentwood without getting hassled much, does stuff in public with his kids, flies his planes, etc. On the other hand, it's simply impossible for Cruise not to be absolutely hounded wherever goes, and, more importantly, is still killing it at the box office and pushing the envelope on screen.
I know Nicholson probably doesn't get "hounded" anymore, but I'd have to guess if he walks into a restaurant, everyone knows it.

Daniel Day Lewis, Dicaprio, and Jeff Bridges are stars who I'll sit down to watch their movies without a second thought (unless Bridges is doing voice work).

Kevin Spacey used to be up there for me too, but, we've all learned he's a PoS to a degree I don't think anyone expected.
