Have you ever seen the YouTube of the guy that recreated the entire Permanent Waves album all by himself?
I have not.
This will give you more insight into Permanent Waves. And you can focus on the guitar playing if you want although you can see all instruments played in detail and the vocals performed as well.
If YouTube views were given based on talent alone, this video should be the all-time leader in views of any video that doesn't include amazing boobs. Sorry, that's a qualifier on the internet.
This video is dumb. And makes me wonder if he is an alien. Or an android.
Enjoy. It is worth it to watch the entire thing in one sitting with no distractions.
But he needs to sing and shred the bass at the same time if he wants to play Geddy's part.
I started a thread with that youtube video a couple years back. Insane!! I remember the moment I figured out that all parts were the same guy... just a huge wtf moment. Thanks for posting, gonna watch again.
Embarrassing: I think my initial exposure to Rush was actually Geddy singing Take Off with Bob and Doug McKenzie. Loved his voice so much that I started the long, deep dig,..
Man...his voice is the reason I just can't get into Rush. I know they're amazing musicians. I play guitar. Their musical prowess is undeniable. I get it. But I just can't take his voice.
Do they still tour? People tell me I need to see a show and I think I finally agree.
Dammit, boys. I'm in.
I've resisted Rush all my life because I've always hated Geddy's voice. Couldn't flip the station or forward the song fast enough. However, as I've progressed in my own personal guitar journey it's made me revisit a lot of old stuff with a new eye.
So I decided to give Rush another visit and focus solely on Alex Lifeson's brilliance and dammit if I didn't come away loving it. All of it. Including a full 180 on Geddy. I've already added around 12 Rush songs to the playlist and diving into more. Watching Rock in Rio for the first time as I'm typing this. Absolute brilliance.
I get it. I'm all in. However, now I'm devastated I'll never see them live. Truly.
This is so awesome to hear. From your list in a post below this one, I see you're already listening to Xanadu and The Trees. Not sure if you've heard these versions from Exit... Stage Left. In my opinion, this was Rush at it's absolute best.

Whoops, that should have been in response to maroon barchetta. And yes, Geddy's ability to sing while playing those complex bass lines AND sometimes playing keyboard parts with his feet... just incredible.
With Page, Bonzo and JPJ no doubt that LZ had the most talented collection of musicians collectively. Rush with Alex, Geddy and Neil were not that far behind and clearly in the 2nd slot.
ETA. I left off Plant mainly focusing on the musicianship more than vocals

I found out about the Tyler Warren video from that thread! Sometimes I'll open a tab while working and let it play in the background. Good way to listen to an album and give views to Tyler at the same time.

Cool! That video continues to blow me away. Hell, Alex and Geddy could get Tyler to tour with them as drummer and singer. Geddy's voice is just not the same at 70. Tyler toured with Queen as drummer for a while. I know that will never happen, but a guy can dream. Would definitely not be the same without Neil.

I agree somewhat. Not sure I would put LZ at 1. Obviously, they're up there with Rush. I would add Yes to the mix. Who's number 1 would be personal choice, but they're all incredible.
Yeah, I had that thought too. Tyler drums and sings (which would be tough!). But it will never happen. Except maybe some special event or fundraiser.
I saw him with Queen. He and Roger Taylor did a bit of a drum duel. He ended his solo with a little tiny tribute to Rush. Probably a handful of people at the show caught it.

That's so cool. I saw a YouTube vid of the drum duel. Bet it was amazing live.

I'm glad they let Tyler have a moment.
Roger is a very underrated drummer. He's had a lot of good licks and his drum sound has always been great.
Did everyone see Alex & Geddy play Closer To The Heart with Primus, Ween, and Matt Stone for the South Park 25th Anniversary concert at Red Rocks this past week?

My cousin sent me the YouTube link. Not sure if it will work here but we can try.
