Anyone else watch this yet? I thought the first episode was pretty decent. Very steampunk. The ending of the episode should have been the beginning, imho. The episode would have been a lot easier to follow...

One review described it as steampunk Buffy the Vampire Slayer. After watching it last night, that seems like a good description.

Because there is absolutely nothing else to watch I decided to give it a shot. What was said above me is correct. It reminded me of a new version of League of Extraordinary Gentleman (in this case, women.). VERY steampunk. I was pretty ambivalent about it to be honest with you, but because of the lack of stuff to watch, I'll stick around

I must be old... how is something you watch steampunk?
I thought those just hung on hipsters' walls or are lamps.

Not sure if serious, but there term typically applied to fiction media (novels and comics/manga) long before anything resembling fashion or housewares. I haven't seen the show as I came here to see if it was worth a look. But, typical "steampunk" is dirivitive of Victorian Era science fiction, most notably Jules Verne, where technology, even future technology, is based upon late 19th century devices, with steam engines bring the most powerful. I'm not saying Jules Verne is steampunk, but steampunk, which really came into collective existence in the 1980s typically has that 1980s dark/distopian feel of like The Warriors or Escape From New York, but with the Jules Verne technology, or lots of steam powered machinery and everything is analog. Now, just because it's steam powered, machinery is typically as complex as modern day technology. These worlds will often have automobiles, public transport, flying machines, and vehicles of war.

Maybe that helps with the term and hopefully it agrees to what the other posters were envisioning when describing the show as such.

I associate steam punk with Back to the Future 3 especially the ended with the flying train and now you mentioned Jules Verne. That was referenced a ton in the 3rd film. I would also say Wild Wild West with Chris Cline and Will Smith. Maybe even Hellboy?

Other recent examples that come to mind are a little bit of His Dark Materials, Sandersons Mistborn Wax and Wayne series, Carnival Row on Amazon.

Another good example is Fallout but it's more like nukepunk vs steampunk.

Everything is 40s styled and runs off of nuke power. From the cars to the alarm clocks, all with mini reactors for power

What about the great film Wild Wild West? That had a steampunk giant walking spider fighting the unlikely tag team of Kevin Kline and Will Smith.

It's a streampunk reboot of X-Men with ladies. They even have their own wheelchair bound head of the "orphanage". Entertaining, but we've seen it before.

Was Steampipe Alley considered steampunk?

The wife and I watched probably the last half of the first episode. Kind of weird and hard to follow, but interesting at the same time. Also the music is pretty great FWIW. We'll be checking out the next episode tomorrow.

Entertaining for now, think I will like it more than His Dark Materials.

Didn't see that coming , it's like it is constantly back and forth between a somewhat lame show about a group of girls/women that are mostly boring and then has really dark turns left and right.

Not in love with it but will keep watching.

I'm not the brightest star in the sky but this show lost me at a few points this episode. I assumed Amalia was a normal turned but is she something else? It's like they are trying to be clever keeping details away and not explaining things very well...

Seems most have given up on this show but I've found it very entertaining and interesting.

I like it. It's different. The characters are engaging.

Still on it. It's certainly good enough to watch when nothing else is on. This last episode was kind of unorganized but good enough.

(I'm oddly attracted to the Irish gal. She's normal-hot, kind of like Lily from AT&T)

I don't think it's odd when she is probably the best looking in the show.

Still watching, jury is out still for me.

Have you watched Outlander?

Three episodes in and I like it. It's definitely a little uneven. I assume it was big budget, but sometimes it kind of wants to be indy shoestring budget sci-fi. Anyway I'll certainly finish the first 6 episodes and watch the next six whenever they decide to air them.

Yes. All of them. True is the same way in this show. Normal hot, but I didn't include her because after this episode you find out she an absolute freak in the sack so I didn't think it needed to be said out loud

Yeah I don't know how to explain the start of the last episode. But having seen it through will rewatch the start to see what I can pick up. The acting is terrific in this show and the character relationships are so well done. Story line is cool to me but the characters and relationships pull me in the most because it's so well executed.

Enjoyed the first episode, but I want it to be more like FireFly than Buffy the Vampire Slayer though.
I also get a steampunk vibe. I am glad it has not been annoying thus far.

I was thinking I'd go back and watch the previous episodes, too. I think I'll appreciate them even more. Enjoying this show.

Amalia as "Molly the Baker" was one of the best short stories I've seen in a long time. Fantastic. Heartbreaking.

Just caught up.

Well that went from zero to bat **** insane real quick. I enjoyed it (after the whiplash wore off), but it's definitely a show that hasn't found it's footing. I don't know if it will be given enough time to get there.

From the tidbits that came out I wondered if there was a lot of drama to the production. That would explain some things.
