I don't know for sure, but I do know that we made a clean break in 2000. All of our vhses only went up to 1999.

I can only narrow ours down to American Pie, The Matrix, Austin Powers 2, or The World Is Not Enough.

Never bought one. Only rented.

Probably Cool Runnings

But I did keep using blank vhs tapes to schedule my VCR to record shows that I would otherwise miss for nearly ten more years.

Only because Lucas stubbornly refused to release it on DVD back in 2000.

When did the dvd come out then?

I know for sure I bought it at some point right around AOTC, either 02 or 03.

Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring, sometime in the Spring of 2002. My family was veerrry slow to adapt to new technology.

My family (dad and older brother) adopted digital technology early. We had a CD player in the house in 1986, and for movies it was later disc in early/mid90s, followed shortly thereafter with dvds, likely about when they came out.

This rubbed off on me. I switched from cassettes to cds at the ripe age of 10 in 1990, and I never bought a vhs. By end of high school I was buying dvds already.

I know we bought that fairly late as well. And Blade as well. But since both are 1998 it's hard to know for sure.

Oddly I remember the day I bought Blade is the same day my older brother bought American Pie. We each got a movie at Sam Goodys or wherever it was.

Phantom Menace for me as well.

First DVDs I bought were the first X-Men movie, which included my first experience with "press these random buttons to get an Easter Egg" and Gladiator.

Early 90s, I was sitting in a doctor's waiting room reading some entertainment-related magazine when I came across some blurb about this technology called laser discs. It referenced one of my favorites, Alien, with all kinds of extra footage included on the laser disc box set release for that movie. So I went out and bought a player and that movie, and this led to a collection of such movies that cost me roughly $6K. Which is now worth about $1 in total. Ouch.

The bad joke on me was that the Alien LD cost roughly $100; just about 5 years later, the DVD would come out with all that extra stuff and cost maybe $25, or whatever DVDs cost when they first emerged in the late 90s. Wish I could get Doc Brown's Delorean and go back in time to kick myself in the ass.

I still have that home movie I made of your mom. Only reason I've kept the player.

If gifts count a buddy gave me the trilogy set of Star Wars when he got married back in 2014. Apparently Han shot first...

Time travel for $75. Holy low bar, Batman.

My last was some John Wayne. Wallyworld used to have a dump bin of vhs and I would buy John Waynes I hadn't seen before.

When I was in college (well into the DVD era), I bought a bunch from the Half Price Books on Texas (RIP), for like $.25 apiece, particularly when I got into my older movies phase. I don't remember the last one I bought, but I had a huge collection. Of course, my wife made me get rid of most of them when we moved in together, but I still have a few I've held onto.

yeh my bro ended up with about 100 laser discs. He had a pricey Sony player that had two lasers or whatever (so you didn't have to flip it half way)

All worthless within 5-8 years.

You must have missed where I stated that I dropped roughly SIX THOUSAND DOLLARS on those damn paper weights.

edit to point out that my LD collection does include a box set of the original, unaltered versions of the original Star Wars trilogy.

Probably Independence Day, Twister and The Rock. They all came out in 96 and I went to A&M in 97 and I don't recall buying any VHSs after that. My parents had Titanic, which is the last I can recall them purchasing.

That's the latest one I can remember off the top of my head. And count me in the collection of people that had an absurd amount of DVDs through and after college. Been going through and selling most of them recently. Just don't really watch many movies at home any more

Baby Einstein videos back in the early/mid 2000's

It was 30 minutes of baby crack that gave parents a nice break.

Julie Aigner-Clark was referred to as video mommy.

I also remember these really weird clay-mation videos that went along with the "Little People" toys, it had a intro sung by Aaron Neville.

Good call. Baby Beethoven, Baby Neptune, and other assorted videos were sanity savers with our first born back in 2003. Had not thought of Julie Aigner-Clark in a long time, but my wife and I owe her.

I just randomly remembered buying The Terminator from the bargain bin in what must've been 99 or early 00.

That might have actually been my last one.

Had never seen the movie before then. Great purchase.

I think it was "Fight Club" which I proceeded to watch at least 100 times on my tiny Daewoo tv/vcr combo while in college.
