Early 90s, I was sitting in a doctor's waiting room reading some entertainment-related magazine when I came across some blurb about this technology called laser discs. It referenced one of my favorites, Alien, with all kinds of extra footage included on the laser disc box set release for that movie. So I went out and bought a player and that movie, and this led to a collection of such movies that cost me roughly $6K. Which is now worth about $1 in total. Ouch.
The bad joke on me was that the Alien LD cost roughly $100; just about 5 years later, the DVD would come out with all that extra stuff and cost maybe $25, or whatever DVDs cost when they first emerged in the late 90s. Wish I could get Doc Brown's Delorean and go back in time to kick myself in the ass.
