Didn't see a thread on this one and didn't want to detract from the discussion on how to fix the Oscars or who's the biggest Hollywood Hypocrite in the Oscar Thread.
Came out in 2020, won several awards, directed by Thomas Vinterberg (The Hunt, The Celebration) and starring Mads Mikkelsen. It is now available to stream on Hulu, it's all in Danish with subtitles.
Thought it was really good. Maybe my second or third favorite of 2020 behind TENET and Sound of Metal. I think it depicts alcoholism and drinking in an interesting way, performances (especially Mads) were great, and the ending in particular is awesome.
Some spoiler thoughts below:
I just really appreciated how something felt off and wrong to the viewer while the four leads were embracing the drinking and everything seemed to be working for them. And then it becomes apparent that we're only seeing it from their view, not the family and coworkers and how it really has negatively effected their life.
Knew it was not going to end well for Tommy, God I hope somebody saved his dog. Also brutal watching Specs put the rose on his coffin and start the singing.
Like I said, I just loved Mads dancing at the end with that music playing. In my mind it's him embracing life, and while he is drinking again, he's not drinking to make his life better. I think I liked that better, as opposed to it just ending with them refusing to drink again or whatever.
Anybody else watched this one?
