Jealous. One of my favorite bands. We almost drove down from CS for that show but decided against it. Although I've heard that actual show wasn't very good.

Did catch them with the new lead singer a few years back.

Almost.........

Saw John Denver play on 10/4/97 in Austin. Next night he played in Corpus which would turn-out to be his last show. He died a week later.

That's a big one. I never got to see him. He was incredible.

We saw The Eagles last show before COVID shut down the country. Closest I can get.

Close. I saw Black Sabbath's last show in London when I was there for work in 2017. I think Ozzie fronted one or two more shows in Birmingham before they shut it down for good.

Not his last show, but saw Chester Bennington fronting STP at Dallas' House of Blues. Don't think it was many months latter that he passed.

Was going to buy tickets to see Scott Weiland at Gas Monkey then the week before passed. .

I'm bored of most rock these days but I could easily see myself putting Audioslave as my favorite band of all time. I really like his voice.

Putting RATM members with his vocals was a match made in heaven for me.

What was international superstar Selena doing playing at Denim and Diamonds in Bryan?

The only one that comes to mind but wasn't the last is Michael Hutchence of INXS 4.20.1997 at Starplex at a festival concert. Not certain how many shows were played after that as that wasn't a tour but they would tour that fall before he died and his last show was 9.27.1997.

Saw the last or next to last (don't remember) concert by the 70s band Chase at a small intimate venue in Houston before half of the band, including Bill Chase, were killed in a plane crash flying to the next gig in MN. It's in my top 5 of concerts I've seen.

Lol. Had never heard of her until after she died. I do have a picture of my wife next to her scantily clad statue in Corpus though.

I was at the infamous STP show in The Woodlands a decade ago or so. They stopped touring the next day due to his "issues"

I think you must be mistaken. He was explicit in the fact that he was retiring after.

She was there. I was a bartender there. We had Tejano night on Sundays. I was wrong. It was her last show but 2 weeks before her death

I always thought the Astrodome was her last show, and was surprised to see this show in the Netflix series. Not to mention that she was still playing small clubs at that point in her career, after selling out the Astrodome.

Definitely still listen to them. But that remains the worst show I've ever attended and everyone left extremely pissed off.

They came on stage well over an hour after the opening act. Rumor was Scott hadn't shown up yet. When they did finally come on you could tell early on he was ****ed up. He went on a few random rants, all of which were incoherent. Slurred his way through songs. They didn't do Creep, presumptively because there's no way he could have made it through.

All told they might have played for 45 minutes. Absolute train wreck.

This was the last thing I remember seeing Weiland play at the time. Not sure if it was the last show of his and I wasn't at it but I most certainly watched it a couple days after this trainwreck and knew it was over. Was very sad the day he died and listened to "Atlanta" probably twenty times in a row when I heard the news.

edit: this is Brewster Street Icehouse in Corpus Christi. Talk about a downfall. Sad.

I can't believe I didn't know about this Selena show and the reaction on that KBTX link (my freshman year at A&M was Fall '96 but was well aware of her when she died) but just went down the rabbit hole and found this:

Quote:

A few days later, Howard Stern mocked Selena's murder and burial, poked fun at her mourners, and criticized her music. Stern said, "This music does absolutely nothing for me. Alvin and the Chipmunks have more soul ... Spanish people have the worst taste in music. They have no depth." Stern's comments outraged and infuriated the Hispanic community in Texas.[169] Stern played Selena's songs with gunshots in the background on his show.
Talk about escaping cancel culture. Somehow Howard Stern makes a hundred million a year to be a shell of what made him huge. Don't mean to derail. Just had an epiphany that I don't think there's ever been anybody in entertainment history to dodge such bullets. That's some seriously toxic **** among all the rest he built an entire career upon.

Carry on.

A Hispanic Radio DJ (from San Antonio I believe) called to complain that he was being disrespectful and Stern got really unhinged and told him to go back to his own country. There was some moderate blow back but it was "just the shock jock being shocking." Different times.

I think the closest I've come was seeing Drowning Pool as one of the bands at Buzzfest a couple of months before their singer died.

Merle Haggard also came to mind, saw him at Willie's 4th of July Picnic, but that was several months ahead of his passing.

Not quite the same but I had tickets to see Donald ***en in San Antonio the evening of Sep. 3, 2017.
Walter Becker died earlier in the day and ***en canceled the tour (at least for a while).
