Saw some entertainment news blurb that John Lithgow is returning in the reboot. Wasn't he killed in season 4?

Deadline reports that the limited series return of Dexter (aka a 10-episode ninth season) has written the Trinity Killer back into the plot, with Lithgow's scenes only requiring a day or two of filming in the next week or two in Los Angeles.

The good news for those of us who do wish the series ended after Season 4, this new revival of Dexter will be showrun by Clyde Phillips, the man responsible for the series' glory days. Phillips initially came in to revamp the pilot, and then stayed on as showrunner for four seasons. He left for the final four, and though Phillips' continuation will reportedly not ignore the "I'm a lumberjack and I'm okay" twist in the original series finale, fingers crossed the writer can return the show to some of its former blood-soaked luster.
How Phillips and company will resurrect the Trinity Killer, though, is anyone's guess. Flashback? Dream sequence? We'll just have to snap on some latex gloves and find out.
Lithgow may be serving in the Harry role.
I think you, sir, may be on to something.
If this is a one-season reboot ... all bets are off in terms of outstanding characters who "could" be brought in through a variety of ways.
Whether through memories, flashbacks or "visitations" ... this sets up the writers to make Dexter a highly tormented individual as a result.
