I wouldn't call myself a prude but AMC is plastering this new show all over the place and clearly don't care who sees it. While watching The Great Outdoors with my kids, "Kevin Can **** Himself" is permanently fixed to the bottom corner throughout the duration of the PG movie. Of course my kids know its a foul word and the two asterisks aren't keeping anything a secret but it's a testament to how desperate these cable channels are getting for viewers. Apparently it features the same actor from $chitts Creek, so I see a theme going with the gimmicky titles but nevertheless its a shame when my 8 year old daughter asks about it.

Even TexAgs filtered out indiscreet F word in the title...LOL

I was pretty surprised to see that kind of edginess coming from the Godfather/Shawshank channel.

I'm a hypocritical prude I guess; I'm foulmouthed around friends but not family, and I like a little compartmentalization in my entertainment. It increasingly stands out to me when cursing or sex are awkwardly inserted out of place to be edgy. Like awkward sex scenes randomly jammed into SciFi shows where you can tell it's written and directed by nerds imagining what hot sex would look like.

Yeah, plastering "Kevin Can **** Himself" ads during the annual Father's Day showing of Field of Dreams was mood-ruiningly hilarious.

Ignoring the fact that those are two movies that really earn that R rating, have you not watched anything that AMC has put out over the past decade? Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Walking Dead, Better Call Saul, Into the Badlands, Preacher...there's a hell of a lot of sex and violence in there

We watched about half the first episode. It's really weird.

The scenes with the husband and family are corny faux-sitcom with an over-the-top laugh track, but when she leaves the house it gets kinda dark.

Hard to follow and disconcerting. We watched it because of Annie Murphy, because we love *****t's Creek.

I always find complaints like this odd.

Setting aside what effect that really has on a kid who is already very familiar with the word, you're watching a movie on a network well known for mature content. I find it hard to fault them for promoting a show to the demographic that generally watches their content.

If you really want to watch that particular movie, you can have it up and running from any one of half a dozen streaming services inside 60 seconds for like 4 bucks if it wasn't available for free.

Some people just want to watch a movie on TV without hunting through half a dozen streaming services or paying $4.

And that's totally understandable.

But don't get mad at the network you're watching it on promoting content to their demographic.

Newsflash, your kids drop f bombs way more than you ever did, are watching porn on their phones, and if not, they're watching it on their friends phones and they're watching tik tok videos of God knows what. That F**** is nothing to them.

and you are able to. but the thing is there are less and less of those people every day so the networks have become increasingly aggressive with advertising their content to make sure it is seen so it has a hope of sticking around.

I watched about 15 mins. Seemed like they were telling the story by alternating his perspective/her perspective. Different for sure

But don't get mad at the network you're watching it on promoting content to their demographic.
"The Great Outdoors" is a goofy, PG-rated movie released in 1988.

Doesn't really seem aimed at the same demographic as "Kevin."

With a little common sense, the network could promote the heck out of "Kevin" on its edgier shows and allow people tuning in to "The Great Outdoors" a little escape.

You're welcome to disagree with their marketing strategy as much as you'd like, but kids watching a random weekend afternoon movie still aren't the target demographic.

Exactly. You just made my point.

The people who watch a movie like "The Great Outdoors" during the day and the people who watch "Kevin" are likely not the same. So target your promos with a little more precision, especially when the show you are advertising has **** in the title.

But they think they are clever and the title is edgy, and they don't care.

If your point was that the random kids on a weekend afternoon make basically no difference to their bottom line and aren't worth catering to as they aren't their target demographic, you are correct.

wasn't there a show on one of the big 3 main networks called "s#@* my dad says" or something like that?

if a random cable channel marketing its show on its own network has got you hot and bothered i imagine you're living a pretty nice life.

That was a great premiere and an awesome concept. I never thought about how annoying it would be to live with a sitcom character in real life.

A thread complaining about a *censored* curse word - not that it's being censored, but that the censored version of the word is even appearing at all, on a channel most famously known for shows about a meth dealer, womanizing ad executives, and killer zombies - while someone else angrily b*tches that the same channel hasn't been able to deliver the final season of another hit show during a once-every-hundred-years global pandemic, is absolute peak TexAgs.

I'm not the least bit hot or bothered. I'm not the OP. I just understand the OP's frustration. And I don't think "well, it's your fault because AMC also broadcast 'Breaking Bad'" is a fair response.

And I AM living a pretty nice life! Thanks!

Agree with OP. Years back there were LA county buses with American horror story promos of a baby covered in blood. I have since moved but that lack of family respect is pervasive.

There's a very big difference between a network publicly promoting something you might find distasteful vs "I'm watching content on your network so you should now cater to me".

It's become a Wilhelm Scream at this point.

This show is specifically a Kevin James reference. It's a nod to the whole Kevin Can Wait disaster where they wrote off Erinn Hayes in the first season just so they could bring back Leah Remini and try to make King of Queens pt2.

I watched the first episode and enjoyed it. Not sure that it's a "can't miss" for me, but I'm sure I'll watch at least a few more eps.

Edit: And sorry if that was obvious to you or others, but based on the number of people on this thread who haven't watched the show and are just complaining about the title, I thought I'd mention it.

Got you. I know nothing about it and not complaining. I was just commenting on how systemic the use of "Kevin" has become in entertainment. It probably accounts for a third of the names of guys in commercials when they have one. And now we've had at least three sitcoms with the name in the title.

I'm assuming it's just an inside joke at this point in the industry
