Oh man....yes how could I forget that but I did.

I loved that album. Played all of their songs for a month or so. Had a couple of other moderate hits off it. And then they were gone.

I'd be surprised if anyone remembers this band - but I was obsessed with them. Another that I thought the entire album was great at least for that mid 80s perfect synth pop sound. They had one album and 2 moderate hits off it but I thought the entire album was great.

In Vitro

This singer was interesting. You might recognize her (Shandra Beri) she was a bit part actress as well and had one part you might know in Roxanne - as the waitress in the bar where Steve Martin told his 20 nose jokes for a bet. She later went into wardrobe and did moves like Oceans Thirteen and The Prestige.

I still have the album not sure you can find it on any streaming service but I ripped it from the CD that I kept up until 2000 or so when i digitized it all.

Interesting bit of trivia: this video was directed by and has an appearance by Bill Paxton.

I submit what I think is the most underrated band ever. They made some great songs but they are almost never heard on the radio and are never mentioned in threads like this one. I'm trying to change that.

I love Rainbow I play their music all the time on my hard rock playlist.

Founded by guitarist Ritchie Blackmore one of the original members of Deep Purple, and for the first 3 albums singer Ronnie James Dio (yes the guy from DIO) who also sang for Black Sabbath after leaving Rainbow.

How about Blackmore having:
  • Ian Gillian
  • RJD
  • Graham Bonnet
  • Joe Lynn Turner

That's some great vocalist right there.

yeah i just feel like they would have been more well known if their vocal sound was consistent. So it's cool he had great singers but it is why Rainbow is not as well known.

Ha! A guy in my dorm would blast this song over and over every time he got drunk. Which was all the time.

Years later, I was trying to remember what song it was that he was obsessed with. Really struggled to remember even a snippet of lyrics to google. Even reached out to one of my old dorm buddies to see if he remembered. Neither one of us could recall.

Then one day the band name just popped into my head, and it was easy to find after that.

Well, I also don't know how much Blackmore cared about doing interviews or working with the media either.

Off their first album titled Flat as a Pancake - always cracked me up.

They also had another hit "Since You've Been Gone" a few years later.

Until today, I'd never even heard of Rainbow, and I consider myself a pretty big rock fan. Thanks to you guys, I now have 3 new songs added to my Rock playlist.

FYI that song "Since You've Been Gone" I mentioned above - it was written by Russ Ballard of Argent but Head East recorded it too a year before Rainbow's version.

Big fan of Rainbow and all its iterations.

I saw Dio and also Deep Purple at a couple Texxas Jams ('85 and '86).

Saw R.J.D. when he fronted a Heaven and He'll show 12 (?) years ago at Dallas' Starplex. .

Ending to the greatest movie ever made, Six pack, has a forgotten Kenny Rogers classic.

Warning, for those who haven't seen the movie, spoiler on the ending.

And not to derail my own thread, but when looking for the video I found this. There was a TV pilot spinoff, had Don Johnson, Markie Post and Joaquin Phoenix. But just imagine had this been picked up, DJ doesn't get Miami Vice and Post doesn't get Night Court.

Awesome! I'm always happy to turn people on to music they enjoy. Rainbow was actually really big in my high school years (early 80s). Stone Cold and Street of Dreams got lots of airplay. My fave is Can't Happen Here, which was my introduction to Rainbow on MTV - GREAT video that was played a lot on MTV's early days.

Blackmore is probably the reason Rainbow isn't a household name. He is, shall we say, an eccentric dude. Deep Purple was inducted into the RRHOF and he wasn't there. There is no Deep Purple without Ritchie Blackmore, but many of the other guys refused to perform with Ritchie at the induction, so he just decided not to go. Creative genius but evidently not the greatest guy to be around. This also probably explains why he couldn't stay with most lead singers he worked with.

Huey Lewis ,along with Hall and Oates, I really didn't care for in the 80s. Too "middle of road". Now, I'm like "turn that up"!
My parents graduated high school in the 50s so I have always liked that Huey Lewis "doo-wop" song.
I am eclectic with my music. My son prefers much harder rock, I told him as long as they bother to write lyrics and I can hear them to good accompaniment it will work for me.

Not many of these are "forgotten" for me, since 80's on 8 is in my regular XM rotation and I have a solid 400 song "80's Pop" playlist (along with 300+ more 80's club songs).
