I never see that discussed here. Conroe has a great community theater (actually two) and we enjoy going to see the shows. My favorite so far has been cabaret but there have been some great ones over the last few years. Anyone else have some favorite shows?

Humble brag my 11yo daughter just got the lead role in matilda at our community theater and im super stinkin proud obviously. Its gonna be such a good show but man these guys put in a TON of work for no compensation.

Congrats for her
It only get more involved if she sticks with it

One thing I will suggest, as a director and proud mom of a theatre kid, is investing in her own stage makeup kit once it reaches the point you know she is doing multiple shows a year. Almost eliminates the chance of pink eye or serious breakouts. Also get a full length mirror to hang on the back the bedroom door. Studying your facial expressions while reciting your lines really helps prove that is it not just the voice that makes the character.

And one last thing, never ever tell her good luck or say Macbeth in the theatre. Bad things happen to the show and those who love you

I've been a season ticket holder for Theater across America at the hobby center for over 10 years now. I've seen more shows that I can remember at this point. Would definitely call it a guilty pleasure. That's one great thing about being at A&M, MSC OPUS pulled in some great shows from time to time and the prices were so cheap compared to Houston

What are the theater names you attend in Conroe?

Growing up, my parents took me to see TUTS in Houston. I got to see the King and I (with Yul Brenner), Hello Dolly (with Carol Channing), Chess, Oklahoma, My Fair Lady, Wizard of Oz, Evita, and others I'm forgetting.

My two favorites were Chess and Evita because, I had no idea what they were about as a kid before seeing them.

As an adult, I've seen Jersey Boys in Vegas and Fiddler on the Roof (with Topol). I want to take my kids to see Wicked, but haven't had the chance to go just yet. My kids also love musicals in movie form (Grease, Hairspray, and most Disney movies).

Thanks for bringing this up as a discussion for the entertainment board, and congratulations to your kiddo.

In conroe ive seen seven brides for seven brothers, mamma mia, cinderella, footloose and cabaret. My absolute favorite was my very first musical which i saw at the London opera house. That was miss saigon. It was heartwrenching. Ive seen others here and there.

Oh i just realized you said theater names not shows lol. Ill leave my other post anyway. The players theatre company at owen is who my daughter will be playing matilda. The other is stage right at Crighton theater. Crighton is actually pretty cool. Its over 100 years old and it has balcony seating and looks pretty old timey. Owen has a cool mid mod feel to it.

Just realized Hamilton says Macbeth in "Take a Break". I wouldn't say they had bad luck, right?

I trust you'll understand the reference to another Scottish tragedy
Without my having to name the play

They think me Macbeth, ambition is my folly
I'm a polymath, a pain in the ass, a massive pain

Jefferson's Macduff
And Birnam Wood is Congress on its way to Dunsinane

You are allowed to say it during a performance
But not backstage

And if you do say it backstage during a rehearsal, you have to leave the theatre, spin around three times, spit on the ground, say the worst swear word or phrase you can think of, and knock on the door to be allowed back in

I enforce that.
