He's full of crap on the Bruce Lee stuff. When defending his portrayal of Bruce Lee in another interview, he lied in saying that Bruce Lee claimed he could defeat Mohammad Ali. Bruce Lee himself said the opposite. The quote in a book that Tarantino cites was said by another person about Bruce Lee, not by Bruce Lee himself. The notion that only Lee's daughter has the right to be upset is a BS excuse.
Lee was a great martial artist & really an innovator when it came to combining styles.
He's put up on a pedestal though... he was less than 150 pounds & lots of people then (and more now) would have wiped the floor with him.
I was shocked that Linda Lee made up the story about Bruce coming up with the idea for "Kung Fu" & then losing the job to David Carradine because Warner Brothers was racist. Tarantino shot so many holes in her story... no way it was true.

Oh and his point about fighting in the jungle is stupid too. If a navy seal stood toe to toe with a top MMA fighter, and they fought hand to hand, then the MMA fighter would win every time. No matter if they did that in a ring or in the jungle or if it was just for fun or to the death. Give them both weapons and the ability to duck behind trees and stuff, then the navy seal would win every time.

I kinda liked Sean Fennessey's thought that the Bruce Lee scene was just Cliff's (biased and unreliable) recollection of the story. Of course, QT just shot it right down.

I watched it when it dropped on Netflix, however long ago that was, and I really enjoyed it. If you enjoyed Hateful Eight and it's been a while since you've seen it, definitely worth checking out. Lends itself very well to the episodic format.

I was just reminded that QT wrote a novelization of "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" that just came out.
I've just ordered it to pick it up at Target (only $7.50, so not a bad price) and will probably plow through it in a few days.

More things in this world to worry about. I respect QT for telling everyone else to EAD. I have some authors I love that say similar things when people critique their books regarding lack of "representation" or "the male gaze".
He's an artist. He made his art and doesn't owe anyone anything. Stick up for yourself, QT!

What is BS, is when they defame a person who can't fight back. Both alive and dead. There are countless examples of bogus news stories ruining the lives of average people. And dead people can't fight back either. In The Pacific miniseries, the show falsely portrayed Snafu, a real life person, as performing atrocities. Their excuse was "those things did happen in the war", but NOT BY THAT GUY. If you want to show those things happening, then either portray the people who really did it, or make up a fake representative character and make him do that stuff. Don't make some grandson have to defend the honor of his grandfather for the rest of his life because you were a lazy filmmaker.
I'm not a Bruce Lee fanboy or anything. I haven't read any of his books (if he has any), and have never sat down to watch any of his movies. But I have seen a documentary or two, and by all accounts he seems like a real nice and down to earth guy. QT made him out to be a pompous jackass. Now a generation of people who don't bother to read up on anything will think that is true.
What is ironic is that QT himself is a pompous jackass. And has been since before this movie came out. The whole thing about "I'm going to stop making movies since I don't want to start making bad movies" is a pompous thing to say. His movies have been brainless revenge crapfests for a long time. His last good movie (IMO) was Jackie Brown. Meanwhile, you have 78 year old Martin Scorsese who has made something like 90 movies, that continue to blow QT's out of the water. Maybe it's not age, QT, maybe it's about running out of original ideas.

Tons of people who knew Bruce Lee (not just his daughter), including Kareem Abdul-Jabbar said that the portrayal was BS. Especial the part about him thinking he could beat Ali. They said he practically worshiped Ali and studied his fights to learn from him. He is quoted to having said, "Look at my hand. That's a little Chinese hand. He'd kill me."
Yet QT made the entire premise of the scene about Lee saying he could beat Ali. That's the entire reason the fight with Brad Pitt happened. And yet we are supposed to believe that QT did his homework? He didn't. At least other movie makers come out and say, "It's fiction. Don't take is seriously." QT could easily come out and say, "DUDE.. in real life, the Charles Manson family didn't get killed either.. it's FICTION!!!" But since he doesn't like criticism, he continues to double down on his BS portrayal. That's part of what makes him a jackass.

(Not that I've seen more than a few youtube clips of Enter the Dragon, but it's hard to imagine that Kill Bill is any better).
