i didnt see a thread on it, and just saw a season 5 thread.

i just started watching this, and dont want spoilers, but thought it was good enough through the first few episodes to bring it to the board again.

i had never heard of it, and the blurb/poster whatever never really grabbed my attention.

really cool outlander (connery movie)/bladerunner/total recall feel to it.

Enjoy! Wish I could watch it again for the first time. Great sci-fi show. The books are very good as well.

Honestly I think the show has gotten better with each subsequent season. So the most recent was the best yet, IMHO.

Best sci-fi show running. Not sure I could pick a favorite season. Maybe one because I watched that one before I read the books.

Just tremendous world building in both the books and the show.

Read the first 2 books and tried to start the show. Couldn't get through the first season because of how different they made the crew from the books. I'm sure if I had never read the books, i would have enjoyed it. Maybe i'll give it another shot when the books fall out of my memory and the differences don't bother me as much.

I thought something unique about the show is how closely it's following the books, including characters. The only major character deviation is that book Naomi will cover her face with her hair when she's nervous or under a lot of pressure. Holden, Amos, Bobby, Miller, Fred, and Alex I've thought were dead on the money. Especially Amos. Even Avasarala cusses though it's more colorful in the books.

The show only gets better, especially once that Amazon money starts coming in.

If you're looking for a turning point for where it started becoming something more than just great Sci-Fi, you'll hit that in Season 2 Episode 5.

Yeah I thought they nailed the characters for the most part.

The only character I haven't liked in the show is Marco Inaros, but that's because in my head that character was sort of a Dwayne-Johnson-style showman who smiled his way out of problems. But that's not the show's fault, it's just the way that character was in my head.

what do ya'll think, if i'm reading the books, should i watch the show concurrently or wait til i finish all the books to watch the show

Personally, I'd probably watch as much of the show as I could before reading the books.

For some reason "spoilers" don't bother me as much when I'm reading as they do when I'm watching.

You'd be fine until the most recent season. The arc is basically midway through a 2 part arc. The books/show arc get progressively better with maybe the exception of season 4/book 4(Cibola Burn).

I caught up with the books first before watching the show and have not been disappointed.
Season 6 will be the first time where they have to diverge some from the books due to casting issues but hopefully it won't be too major.

I've read through Book 7 and still can't believe I haven't watched this show. I may start it tonight after we watch Loki. Actually tried to start it with my wife a few months ago who hasn't read the books and the first episode was too hard to follow for her and she wasn't in a sci-fi mood at the time so will watch on my own.

For some reason I seem to remember having a had a hard time following the first season also for a few episodes. Not the characters or anything, but like the names of the ships and what exactly was happening where.

First three seasons have more differences IMO because they added some generic tv episode plots and drama. The last two have been as close to the books as you could hope.

The books are awesome.

there is certainly a lot going on. i found it worthwhile to go back and watch episode 1 again before moving to season 2, but i enjoyed it so it was worth the trip.

In the book, Holden was much more of a leader and viewed as such by the crew. In the show, at least well into the first season that I saw, Holden felt like an outcast and the crew is constantly on the verge of mutiny. I did not like the crew dynamic at all, in the show.

He's about 30 at the start of the books. Persoplis Rising (book 7) threw me because there is about a 20 year gap between it and the book before it.

The Miller character was difficult for me in Season 1 and to some degree in book 1. Then you realize he is so integral to everything. Then it all makes sense.

I felt the same on initial viewing, I think by the time they escape with the Roci they slide into the book dynamic and dropped the semi forced drama in the early going. They're very much a family even by season 2 and beyond and the actors fit the characters much better the longer the show runs. In fact I think Naomi's arc is the best of season 5(Babylon's Ashes) and I strongly disliked her in the early seasons.
