Dexter has been on my list of shows to watch for a while. I'm finally getting a chance to binge it. I'm about half way done with season 4.

I saw on the thread about worst series finales that Dexter got mentioned several times. Season 1-4 have been great. Is there a good place to stop before the finale?

I'd stop at 4.

Thanks, going to be hard to stop after season 4. They've all been so good.

I liked season 5 but season 6 is where it really goes off the rails.

Another vote for stopping after season 4

4 is the best, stop there and leave yourself wanting more.

I watched the first 4 seasons and randomly stopped. Didn't know the rest of the series was trash til a few months later. I am happy only viewing the "good" seasons. No desire to go back and watch the others.

Surprised at the willpower to stop at the end of 4 knowing how it ended. S5 obviously starts a downhill trend but it wasn't yet complete garbage like the last season or two, IMO. Honestly, think I liked S5 better than S3 (if that was the Jimmy Smits season)...S4 was just an noticeable peak for the series.

I'd actually recommend someone skip 3, just go 1, 2 and 4 and be done.

I agree with this take. I remember waiting every week for episodes from seasons 5+ to come out and being let down more and more... then I did a re-watch recently and it wasn't nearly as bad when you can at least keep the story moving.

This. Just watch the series as long as you want to. The later seasons aren't as good, but it's not like they're so terrible I regret watching them. I'm also psyched about the new season coming this fall, so there's a chance they'll give us a better ending.

While I hated the last episode, and I fully agree there was a pretty massive drop off after season 4, I still enjoyed the final 4 seasons. I am very excited about the new upcoming season.

That's the season with John Lithgow, right?

Season 4 finale is one of the biggest surprises I remember watching on a TV show.

How great season 4 is and then immediately after how utterly hacky and awful season 5 is was just stunning.

I have a couple of questions, does anything happen to Harrison, Dexter's son? Is the nanny, Irish woman, a criminal?

Did Trinity actually kill Rita? Seems like he would have said something to Dexter while strapped to the table before he died.

Does anything happen to Rita's kids, Cody and Aster?

Does Deb, Dexter's sister, survive through season 8?

Did the show put a damper on tourism in Miami for a few years? Just kidding

In the books Dexter teaches Cody and Aster how to manage their dark passengers. Quite the family.

Been a while so forgotten a lot.

Don't recall the nanny at all, guessing nothing.

Trinity did kill Rita.

Cody and Aster show up here and there I think, but aren't relevant characters in later seasons.

Deb dies in the series finale. Was unsatisfying and done poorly, one of the many reasons the finale sucked.

Yes

I watched the last few seasons live as well. I still don't regret it. I don't regret watching GoT seasons 7&8 either even though I was severely disappointed (especially with 8).

Out of seasons 5-8 I think 7 is the high point.

It is worth watching all of it. It does fall off but excited and hopefully the new season is good

So it's now confirmed that Trinity Killer (Lithgow) and Debra (Dexter's sister who died in the final season) will be a part of Season 9.
