Netflix Inc., marking its first big move beyond TV shows and films, is planning an expansion into video games and has hired a former Electronic Arts Inc. and Facebook Inc. executive to lead the effort.

The idea is to offer video games on Netflix's streaming platform within the next year, according to a person familiar with the situation. The games will appear alongside current fare as a new programming genre -- similar to what Netflix did with documentaries or stand-up specials. The company doesn't currently plan to charge extra for the content, but will probably raise everyone's price.

Hiring an EA exec inspires zero confidence here
How can we put out the worst possible product at the highest price we can?

Talk about Netflix being tone deaf.

I guess on the flipside, a crazy amount of people buy every Madden and Fifa that comes out, so maybe thats who they are targetting.

They probably just wanted to make a splash and looked only at EA's bottom line. Netflix cares about money and content. Money and content.

it shows they have no real clue and are not serious.

ea has poorly manage every single one of its IPs, and has relied almost solely on loot chests tied to FIFA to keep the company afloat.

how anyone can know the basics of EA and decide that an EA hire is a good decision shows someone who should not be making any real business decisions.
That's probably the exact business model Netflix is targeting. They would essentially be FTP which means they are likely going to be pushing loot boxes and microtransactions super hard.
