So I was going down the Youtube black hole and in doing so found out that Tom Cruise was in The Outsiders....having watched the film years 20-something years ago being curious since I had just got done reading the book when I was in middle school I never made the connection he was in the film which made me want to go back and see who all was in it.

Holy crap! This has got to be the biggest group of actors who were super young and mostly unknown at the time who all went on to have big careers. This movie came out in 1983.

Tom Cruise: later that year would star in Risky Business and 3 years later Top Gun

Patrick Swayze: 2 years earlier was an extra in an episode of M*A*S*H...1 year later was in Red Dawn and 3 years after that Dirty Dancing

Matt Dillon: I'm not as familiar with a lot of his work but remembered my first time seeing him was Something About Mary and he was hilarious....that was his 33rd film according to IMDB....The Outsiders was his 7th

Emilio Estevez: 2 years after this film starred in The Breakfast Club

Ralph Macchio: very next year starred in Karate Kid

Rob Lowe: again not quite as familiar with his work but remember him from Wayne's World....Outsiders was his first actual movie

Thomas Howell: has 220 acting credits....The Outsiders was #2

Can anyone think of a film with this many actors that had long careers that were mostly new all in one movie?

We watched the movie after reading the book in 6th grade. The moment that personifies the difference between boys and girls at that age is when the older guys are trying to drown pony boy in the fountain, and ralph macchio pulls the switchblade. Every girl in the class gasped in horror while every boy in the class cheered "OHHHH YEAHHH!"

A good movie, that has a similar thing going on with actors early in their careers.

Brendan Fraser, Matt Damon, Chris O'Donnell, Cole Hauser, Ben Affleck, Anthony Rapp.

Also a lot of "that guy" older actors like Kevin Tighe and Zeljko Ivanek, plus a short appearance from Ed Lauter.

What the hell is Leap Day William?

Dazed and Confused had a pretty stacked cast. Affleck and McConaughey being the big ones but a lot of them have had long indie or tv careers like Parker Posey and Cole Hauser.

It's apparent after this and the "new music" thread, you have absolutely zero grasp on reading comprehension.

Not a movie but Freaks and Geeks comes to mind.

Whenever I get sucked into Band of Brothers I alwas am surprised at how many young actors in that went on to so much more.

There were also cameo appearances by Melanie Griffith, Nicholas Cage, and Flea in "The Outsiders".

And you also left out the big ******** Sosh that sets off the feud with the Greasers was Leif Garrett one of the biggest pop stars from the late 70s.
