In the latest installment of "Ulrich's way too late reviews", I ask why I always fall asleep at some point before Bond gets to the island and has to try to shoot a glass off of some terrified girl's head with an old timey dueling pistol.

It's a great movie for at least the first 20 minutes, but it knocks me out at some point and tension wakes me up, whether it's Javier Bardem going full Cosby on Bond or James "delirium tremons" Bond trying to shake the shakes one more time. The lighting and cinematography is great, the story, the characters.

After I wake up, it's hard to really get back into it, presumably because it has an actual plot that would ordinarily distract you from the fact that you end up watching Home Alone: Moor Alone. Because Scottish Moors, that's the joke.

Someone explain this to me. What did you think of the movie?

Also, Skyfall is an all-time Bond song. It just about makes the movie by itself. Haunting.

Amazing theme song, and some of the best cinematography I've ever seen.

I used to say Casino Royale was Craig's best but after my latest rewatch of his movies, I think Skyfall takes it.

Second favorite Craig Bond movie, after Casino Royale. It was a really good movie that forcefully moved the Bond mythos forward.

I'm in the camp that didn't enjoy it.

It felt like a derivative James Bond remake of The Dark Knight where the hero faces an anarchic villain with a facial deformity who is always magically three steps ahead of everyone else, to the ridiculous point of somehow having placed a bomb in a tunnel bond will chase him through just as a train is passing by on the other side of the wall so he can blow the bomb and have the train impede Bond's pursuit.

Come on.

I did like the song though.

Loved it. Best one of Craigs imo.

That reminds me of one of my beefs. IIRC, his master plan with all these insanely precise details still came down to him walking into a big meeting room and shooting M. And of course someone jumps in the way. Not a great plan!

I think this also had the overused bit of "evil genius planned on being captured."

Casino Royale is still better, in my book.

Bond villains always have deformities, ranging from the simple mute (Odd Job) to weird crap like that guy with diamonds stuck in his face.

Debatable for me. I love the twist reveal in Goldeneye.

I love Skyfall and Casino Royale. They're 1a and 1b, respectively. I give the nod to Skyfall specifically for Bardem, he's outstanding and what all Bond villains should aspire to be. I hated Spectre and Quantum of Solace I've seen exactly one time, it didn't make an impression on me at all, I didn't like or hate it, I don't even remember it. I really hope No Time To Die puts a nice bow on his career as James Bond because he's been great.
