It could be because jazz sucks.

Really? Look before you type.

Went to Keb Mo concert in Bend last week and met quite a few folks who already purchased 2 week and Stones tickets. Sad latoya the destroya did this so premature.

Is there any actual jazz? If so, do they isolate it to a certain portion so that people with taste can leave?

JF has 11-12 stages with 2 having predominantly jazz. My go to this year was once again Derrick Trucks. However what I like is a lot of local NOLA music.

Not sure if the French Quarter Festival is canceled.

Uncharacteristic for New Orleans. Surprised by this.

The spread of fear is quite successful.

I'd get ready for some stupid college football overreactions to come.

Went to grad school in NOLA in the late 90s. One of my greatest regrets was skipping the final Sunday of jazzfest because I had finals that week. They rolled a piano out on stage and the final 3 acts were Dr. John, Fats Domino, then Ray Charles.

The irony that their official website is www.NOJazzFest.com

Heard Shell was going to pull their money if they didn't move the festival. They are their biggest sponsor by a mile.

Move it out of New Orleans or move it to a new location in NO area?

I think he's referring to the date; i.e., Shell did not want it to go forward in October due to Covid.

The date. Without them Jazz Fest wouldn't be able to afford half their lineups.

I just heard that covid was the public reason for the cancellation. But the real reason was due to the lack of workers to make everything happen. If they waited longer then they would've had to pay for the performers vs having the insurance pay.

Similar to Floatfest when they announced that cancellation. They said it was due to the area not being ready in time when the real reason due to low ticket sales and losing their ass to pay performers.

This makes total sense. I've encountered about 5 or 6 situations in the last 24 hours that were precipitated by a lack of workers or quality workers.

I saw Wilco there one year (and Crowes on the same day), and Jeff Tweedy kept making comments about not really being a jazz band and, "well...this song's a little jazzy, I guess...." Someone hadn't told him how big the festival had gotten.

But there are tons of stages and tents, so you can be part of a smaller crowd to see jazz if you want, even some local bands. It is physically impossible to see all the big headliners and all of the actual jazz; you have to plan and pick and choose who you really want to see.

One of the biggest challenges for acl along with other festivals are the workers. A lot of these companies were out of work all of last year so they moved on to other jobs.

Think about it. When you're planning for acl, you would have the same people on your contact list from C3, front gate, production, grounds people, catering, etc. They were all out of work for a year so they moved on. Nowit's all new people in those positions and they don't know the job. It's challenging but it's getting done at least for acl is concerned.
