Just an appreciation thread for these movies.

A few weeks ago my wife and I were in Denver and these were on TV over the course of a few nights. Only got bits and pieces of them so I recently got them on Amazon and watched them beginning to end.

Damn these are good movies. If you were to define popcorn action thrillers as its own genre, these would be toward the top of my list. Hits the basics of good storytelling -- there's a character with a problem and I care whether it gets solved. Good ancillary characters throughout: allies and adversaries. Just enough intrigue to keep you mentally engaged and guessing at a few things, but not overly complicated.

Just freaking solid films.

Saw whatever the one was with Jeremy Renner and thought it was REAL bad. Never saw the recent one with Matt Damon and heard it was also awful.

The last Bourne movie with Damon wasnt bad, its just not as good as the other ones.

The Bourne movies are one of the few movies that I will watch anytime it comes on tv.

Just caught Supremacy and Ultimatum over the weekend...forgot just how bad the shaky cam was in those two. Glad the original didn't have that.

You know, I always thought that Matt Damon was like a Streisand, but I think he's rockin' the **** in this one

Definitely great movies. Loved the first 3 and liked the last one. Didn't care much for the Renner version but it was basically an off-shoot.

IMHO, I believe these movies were partially responsible for transforming the Craig Bond films into harder action flicks that the previous ones. Many scenes in the the Craig movies remind me a lot of the Bourne action sequences.

I agree that the shaky camera work was distracting at times.

Overall for action movie fight and chase sequences these are done well. Some of the chases go a hair too long but in this trilogy they weren't egregious.

I remember in the Jeremy Renner one there was a climactic chase that I almost walked out on because it felt so long.

Agreed. Especially Casino Royale.

I always love how Bourne will freakin MacGyver solutions in the middle of a fight or escape. Magazines in the toaster to blow up the house, using the book to beat up Desh, using the fan and the flashlight to trick the CIA team in the Madrid office.

Cool aspect of his character.

Well the Bond producers and Daniel Craig have confirmed that.

Hadn't heard that before. Not really knowing Craig at all before CR, it definitely helped draw me in for sure.

The last Damon one was maybe enjoyable, but it was also bordering on being a parody of bad hacker movie tropes.

Love those movies. You just have to accept the bad guy logic of, "The world's biggest badass spy we have ever created is off minding his own business and is no threat to us. We should solve our other problem by framing him for murder, or kill his girlfriend. I am sure that will work out for us and come back to bite us in the ass."

My most re-watchable trilogy hands down.

I need some kind of palate-cleansing situation where the bad guys realize Bourne is too dangerous so they just leave him alone. Like it would be a five minute long movie but would finally let the character rest.

Great movies to rewatch on a rainy day. My second favorite action movie franchise for sure.

After the last Mission Impossible, its impossible for me not to call that my favorite franchise, but Bourne is close.
