Worst songs you are forced to listen to at work

We've all been there. Corporate radio, stations you can't change, holiday season cds that play over and over and over again. At my job they pay hundreds to have a curated list of songs that match the atmosphere. The only problem is it hasn't changed once the entire year. It's randomized so at least they aren't in the same order like a late night infomercial for WoW 162, but still, it's mind numbing hearing the same soundtrack of my work life over and over. I feel like Bill Murray in Groundhog Day.

I'll start. This one comes on every morning and it's soul crushing each time it's on.

This song takes pandering to a whole new level. Why stop at America just say "Earth is my hometown"

I was told that I could listen to the radio at a reasonable volume from nine to eleven.

In patient rooms I have no music. In my office while charting or goofing off I have my own spotify playing.

The nurses station does have crappy music going sometimes, but I don't hang out there much especially if they have country or pop playing.

Someone in my office loves reggae. Like really loves it.

And all reggae sounds the same to me.

And that sound is *****

First job was working at a Schlotzskys deli, and I remember wanting to kill myself whenever David Gray - Babylon came on the Muzak box. Happened at least once an hour. I still can't listen to that song without getting angry.

Allstar by SmashMouth. It seems like every station played that at once an hour during the morning and afternoon.

Worked an 8 hour shift for a temp job one summer. Heard Mmm Bop 7 times. I almost jumped out the window.

Do you work at a retail establishment in a minimum wage job? Who the hell is playing music at a corporate hq?

I work at HQ for a very large company. Music isn't piped into the office area, but you can hear it when you walk in the hallways (if there aren't a lot of people). And you can hear it in the bathrooms. It's actually Muzack - all instruments elevator type stuff. Sometimes fun to try and guess the song while taking a leak.

Funny thing is, no music is played in the elevators.

I usually have a classic rock station on at my desk. Even though I love AC/DC, I hate hearing them in the morning on a work day while sitting at a desk in front of a spreadsheet.

I worked as an usher at a movie theater and they would play the same promo commercials every 10-15 minutes on repeat all day long. That particular summer is was:

  • Wyclef Jean - Million Voice (From Hotel Rwanda)
  • Alana Grace - Black Roses Red (From Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants)
  • Dirty Rotten Number - Dirty Rotten Scoundrels Soundtrack
  • Defying Gravity / Popular - Wicked

These songs are seared into my memory, I'm going to be 90 and have forgotten the names and faces of my children but I'll remember that Alana Grace had a song on the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants Soundtrack.

In college I worked at Hobby Lobby (the old one by the mall). They played Christmas songs starting in September and it was basically the same 50 songs on a loop for almost 6 months. It's been 25 years and I still feel like I'm going to Hulk out when I hear Jingle Bell Rock or Santa Baby.

Circa 2002 while working media at the College Station Best Buy, I had to endure a loop of

"How You Remind Me" and "Hero" by Nickelback, as well as "Complicated" by Avril Lavigne.

Those were bad, but by far the worst was "Wherever You Will Go" by The Calling.

I represented a company in Southern Cal that hired a bunch of illegals and la migra showed up unexpectedly. 60% of the labor was gone in one day. Backorders went through the roof and customers were livid.

One of the songs you heard while on hold was BTOs "Taking Care of Business"!

Cringe worthy bad.

Don't know if this counts - Hospital Music

No regular music in the ER, but, every two hours the hospital would play about 20 seconds of The Byrds "Turn Turn Turn" to remind the floor nurses to "turn" their bed bound patients to prevent bed sores.

Also, L&D would play "Happy Birthday" every time a baby was delivered. In SW Houston, that happened a lot!
The last thing I want to do is hurt you. But, it's still on the list.

I worked in a movie theater in high school, so as an usher I had to clean up after the movie. I got so tired of hearing several songs that played over the credits.

Ghostbusters and Stevie Wonder's I just called to say I love you are like nails on a chalkboard for me.

Was it the 4th of July?

That's classic Chicago, but yeah, not everyone's cup of tea.
