We talked our computer teacher into letting us watch Office Space. We said it was about computers, programming and Y2K, which was coming up, so it was relevant to our class.

There was another class where someone brought in the Matrix right when it came out on tape and we watched that too. The teacher thought it was cool and let us watch it.

The ones I remember are:

Romeo Juliet (1st year English teacher showed it to us and she forgot it had the topless scene, I was in 1st period so got to see everything, she skipped ahead in later periods apparently)

Spanish 2 teacher showed us Shrek dubbed in Spanish. We convinced her it would be better if we could watch in English with Spanish subtitles instead.

And in Elementary school it was the best when they showed us The Magic School Bus and Bill Nye the Science Guy. Not movies, but those days were the best.

Romeo and Juliet Freshman year in High School

Manon de Source in French class (teacher held up a piece of cardboard to cover up the nude scene)

Monty Python's Quest for the Holy Grail in World History
Highlander in World History

Ken Burns' Civil War in its entirety when I took Era of Civil War Junior year in College (not at TAMU).

I had one class where a classmate figured out that our tv had an input that actually had basic cable running through it. It was first period and the teacher hated his job, so we watched the Dukes of Hazzard every morning on TNN.

When I was in Junior High, the district bussed the entire JH school to the local theatre and we watched Gone With the Wind.
The last thing I want to do is hurt you. But, it's still on the list.

The Outsiders (English)
Dead Poets Society (English)
Sneakers ("Keyboarding")
October Sky (Science)
Selena (Spanish)
The Matrix (woodshop)
Starship Troopers (woodshop)
Beetlejuice
The Sandlot

One of those things you don't appreciate until it's gone.

I showed that for a couple of days in a government class when most of the class was gone for the county fair

I bet that made you very popular with the boys in your classes.

I remember some PBS-type documentaries in 5th grade, and again in history classes in 7th, 8th, and 9th grades.

Romeo & Juliet in 9th grade English

I can't recall the title, but my 5th grade teacher showed us a movie that we loved so much we begged her to show it to us when we got back from Christmas break. She actually obliged that request. Too bad I can't recall the movie now (but hey, that was circa 1977).

And at Texas A&M, for a management class, we got to see a particularly recent movie that demonstrated good and bad management quite well. Aliens. There were even questions on the next exam over that movie.

I was in English class and we reading the Canterbury Tales. On Friday, she showed us A Knights Tale. When Geoffrey Chaucer's bare ass shows on screen, our teacher points and says "That's him."

In middle school, my teacher put in Teen Wolf. I think it lasted maybe 15 minutes before the teacher stopped it and put in Fern Gully.

I used to pause and rewind the scene with Colin Firth and the wet white frilly shirt in "Pride and Prejudice."

The only movie I show every year to my science class is Apollo 13. I do show clips of movies throughout the year showing both accurate and inaccurate science in science fiction.

So, I'm starting to think English teachers are taught to "accidentally" forget to cover up the nude scene in Romeo and Juliet. Everyone, including myself, seems to have the same story of their teacher not covering up the screen.

I think there was a movement among teachers to show it unedited because it was art. At least that's how my teacher explained it. We did have to get permission forms signed by our parents.

My Spanish 3 teacher had to leave so the Spanish 4 teacher came in on her conference period and graded papers while we watched a movie. She put in Airplane. Everyone gasped when the topless chick ran across the screen during the turbulence scene. By the time the teacher looked up, she was gone. It was perfect.

I saw the film the first semester of my freshman year while living in suburban Maryland in the early 90's. We were all stunned (in a good way) when the scene ran. Afterwards, someone mentioned to the teacher that they were surprised she let us watch that scene and she basically said that since the county school district approved the film she saw no reason to censor the scene.

Over the Christmas holidays my dad got transferred for work and we moved to the Florida panhandle. Sure enough, in second semester freshman English Romeo and Juliet came up on the reading list. We saw the same movie, but this time, the teacher covered the screen with a blanket during the scene. Of course the guys in the class were disappointed and tried to convince the teacher to show the scene, but the teacher said there was no way in the world he would allow us to see that scene.

One history teacher (coach) rotated between Apollo 13, Field of dreams, braveheart, and the Untouchables every single class. I don't think he ever even issued the textbooks.

Other movies I saw in high school that I haven't seen mentioned: Places in the Heart, Paper Moon, MacBeth, Angels in the Outfield, The Crucible, Johnny Tremain ( Johnny Deformed-hand), Huck Finn, Star Wars Trilogy, Indiana Jones Trilogy, Anamaniacs, Christmas Carol, Disney's Christmas Carol, Miracle on 34th Street, Lion King, Bambi, Time to kill, Hocus Pocus, Fantasia, Odd Couple, LoonyToons, and Roger Rabbit.

I went to a very rigorous high school.

My junior year, our world history teacher, in her first job out of college, said if we all were satisfied with our grades, we could not take the final and people could bring in movies and we'd watch one on the VCR - yes milennials, on THE VCR.

We all were happy with our grades and on the last day of school before winter break, we watched Pretty Woman, a perfect film for a bunch of 16 and 17 year olds about a prostitute being bought for a week by a rich guy.

One of my friends from high school (one grade above me) had a teacher show Lolita, the 97 remake. He still talks about it to this day.

To be fair, who shows that in a high school?
