I watched the first episode last night on Hulu and...man. I know everyone's appetites for 9/11 content are different, especially those of us who are old enough to remember that day clearly - but this is a really well-done piece so far. Wondering if anyone else has watched any of it so far.

Just starting it this evening. Always fascinated with 9/11 stuff and this has never seen footage, I believe. Looking forward to it.

It's extremely well done. Just a little difficult to watch at times.

Watching the firefighters' faces there at the end of episode 1, after the stories of it being the last time they saw their friends/brothers and as people were falling from the towers...like I said, tough to watch at times.

Going to try and watch episode 2 tonight.

Is it a documentary or some dramatized take by someone?

Hulu's track record on "documentaries" (to me) has been FAR below par in recent years.

It's a National Geographic documentary with each episode airing every night on Nat Geo. There have been three out of six released so far and they are available on Hulu for next-day steaming once released.

Crazy that we're about to hit 20 years since that day. Remember that day perfectly.

Visited the memorial a few years back when I was living in New York. Very powerful experience.

I saw that for the first time on a doc for the 10 year anniversary and my jaw dropped. As far as I know, that is the only live footage of the first plane. Pretty amazing.

That footage was taken by one of the Naudet brothers, who were in NY to shoot a documentary about the fire department. I saw an interview a few years ago with them where they talked about it being almost an afterthought to head out that morning and film on that particular call.

great info. I was literally thinking " why tf are they filming this random day in the life of a fire fighter working a gas leak"

what a crazy coincidence and to have a perfect angle of the WTC too, amidst all of those buildings.

To each their own, I'm sure it's well done. The first doc Nat Geo did was amazing and laid out the entire story wonderfully. But I can't imagine subjecting myself to that horror for that many more hours again.

We've watched all 3.

Definitely lots of footage I've never seen before. I was attending A&M when it happened, so certainly pretty vivid memories.

I can't believe some of these stories of people high up that survived. And the pair of men that both 'saved each other'.. that's unbelievable.

Guy A is stuck inside an office behind a wall. Guy B is with a group of people that just got to a new floor, and a person on that floor said we have to go up, down is fire. So the group went up, but Guy B heard a cry for help. He left the group, found Guy A, got him out, and in an instant, they both decided to go down. They both survived. Presumably, the group that Guy B left did not make it.
Guy A tells the story of him looking out a window, on the phone talking about the first tower, and he sees a plane coming right at him. It gets bigger and bigger, then, instead of hitting him head on, the plane tilts its wings a bit, so he's spared.

I think I've reached that point as well. I've seen enough of the footage to last a lifetime and can still picture that day very clearly in my head.

My wife's bday is 9/11 so I like to make that day about her rather than watching all the docs like I used to. We pray and remember, but I prefer that day to be a happy one for her rather than a somber one.

There was another guy on the highway that filming his drive through the (Lincoln?) tunnel that captured the first plane hitting as well but it was not nearly as clear as the Naudet brothers footage.
Incredible thing is that this guy filmed the north tower getting hit just as his car was entering the tunnel. Traffic was so bad and took him so long to get through the tunnel that just as he was exiting the other side, he filmed the plane that hit the south tower. This guy filmed both planes hitting. Incredible.

I've seen probably all (or vast majority) of 9/11 docs. Sounds like nothing new or groundbreaking, but I will give ep. 1 a shot and see.

I'm with you. The events of that day are still so vivid, can't believe that was 20 years ago. Just can't watch any of it.

I'm like you in that I've seen them all over the years. Really nothing new here that's not already available. In that vein, I find it fascinating that there are people here who hadn't seen the Naudet footage of the first plane hitting.

There was one guy in the last episode who gave his story and it was the first time I'd ever heard it. It was pretty moving. Very humble guy. Other than that, like you said, really nothing groundbreaking in this one.

Their story could be a movie.

My wife was pregnant with our twins at the time, and after that 2nd plane hit, I remember thinking "Damn, what have I done, what kind of world am I bringing these kids into?"

So far, so good. I think.

I'm pretty fascinated by the events of 9/11. There was certainly things I had seen before that are in this series, but there are also some pretty incredible first-person stories that I had not seen. I'm glad I watched it all.

I am amazed at how consistently people who were in the midst of the collapse expressed complete surprise when they emerged to find that the towers had collapsed.

I'm more surprised how many people lingered around ground zero after 1 tower collapsed. As if the other wouldn't.

These days, when I hear some people talk about the events of 9/11, it reminds me of the way I talk about World War II. Very analytical and detached, instead of with the feeling and emotion of having lived through it.

I'm two episodes in and it's amazing. Like others have said above, I devour everything 9/11 that I can. Multiple reasons, I guess - the vivid memory I have of that day, the fascination with being able to see - on film - the exact moment that the world changed forever, the not wanting to forget (as if I could) and also the not wanting to ever stop being angry about it. Not sure if that last one is 'normal' or not, but for some reason that's important to me.

Anyway, regarding the Naudet footage of the first plane, I'm curious as to how old the posters are who had never seen that or didn't see it until years after.
I'm honestly stunned that anyone who was over the age of about 9 on 9/11 didn't see that within the first week after it happened. I'd argue that it's like the Zapruder film of several generation(s).

ive seen the video of a plane hitting the first tower. But that was it, nothing leading up to it. Just a split second of a plane hitting a building.

So seeing the video with the previous minute or so was new to me. Had no idea it was connected to firefighters of that day.

So glad I stumbled upon this thread which caused me to watch these. I have watched just about everything I could find regarding 9/11, but this has some new things (at least to me) that just amaze me.

It's wild the types of emotions watching videos and hearing stories from 9/11 bring. Anger, sadness, hope, joy. I don't care if I hear the same story 30 different times about 9/11, it is still like hearing it for the first time.

Guy A actually almost left after the North tower was hit, but when he got to the lobby of the South tower (2nd tower hit) the security guard was telling everyone they were safe and to go back to there office's. Guy A hesitated, but went back up anyway. If he goes home, Guy B dies.

Thank you for sharing that. I have never heard that story before and it was very powerful. He was a wonderful speaker and his message at the end touched me deeply.
